My father in law just gave me his Marling 336W in 30/30. Im not into hunting rifles at all and know nothing about it. Its SUPER mint... near perfect condition. He told me it hasent been fired more than a dozen times in total and he's only had it out on 2 hunts, one day each (never fired it while hunting). I dont know when or where it was purchased. The only upgrade it has on it is a Williams peep sight on the rear. Receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mount but non are installed.

Can anyone tell me a bit about this gun and what an approximate value would be. Im considering keeping it, but really dont have room in the safe for a gun ill never use. If I do decide to sell it, id like to include a reasonable asking price. I see they retail for between $430 and $470 new without the upgraded rear sight.

Ill get a picture or two up later tonight.

EDIT:
I did some looking around. This is a 336W with the first 2 numbers of the serial number 91###X. From what I can tell, it was built somewhere around 2008/09. It has the JM stamp on the left side of the barrel so it was manufactured by Marlin, not by Remington as the later ones were. Im not sure what this means in terms of value, or if it makes any difference at all. Just thought id add what I found out.

Being JM stamped would make her worthier than the current ones.
I imagine it has the cross bolt safety?
Git some photos up.

The 336W is the base model. Though yours is stamped JM,it was still made after the Remington takeover (end of 2007), so while the earlier JM stamped ones seem to command a premium, I doubt this one qualifies. I'd estimate value to be around $400 max.
If you decide to keep it, it'll be a great close quarter deer gun. I have the exact same rifle and production date and it seems well made and pretty accurate. To me, it's worth more than what I could get for it.

If you do decide to sell it, I'd remove the peep and sell it separately.
