My father in law just gave me his Marling 336W in 30/30. Im not into hunting rifles at all and know nothing about it. Its SUPER mint... near perfect condition. He told me it hasent been fired more than a dozen times in total and he's only had it out on 2 hunts, one day each (never fired it while hunting). I dont know when or where it was purchased. The only upgrade it has on it is a Williams peep sight on the rear. Receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mount but non are installed.
Can anyone tell me a bit about this gun and what an approximate value would be. Im considering keeping it, but really dont have room in the safe for a gun ill never use. If I do decide to sell it, id like to include a reasonable asking price. I see they retail for between $430 and $470 new without the upgraded rear sight.
Ill get a picture or two up later tonight.
EDIT:
I did some looking around. This is a 336W with the first 2 numbers of the serial number 91###X. From what I can tell, it was built somewhere around 2008/09. It has the JM stamp on the left side of the barrel so it was manufactured by Marlin, not by Remington as the later ones were. Im not sure what this means in terms of value, or if it makes any difference at all. Just thought id add what I found out.
