Hi, I’m getting my first .22 semi-automatic… I did some research and it seems to be that Ruger 10/22 and Marlin 795 are good choices …I went to the stores and take a look at them… now it’s a problem here….don’t know what to choose Ruger or Marlin
Marlin 795
Pros: price, durable synthetic stock, last shot-bolt hold open, swivels can be attached (pardon my French) small size (good to carry all day long in a “back country”)
Cons, no aftermarket parts, scope mount, toy like inexpensive look and no high cap mags are available
Ruger 10/22 Standard
Pros: price ($50 more then marlin) tons of aftermarket parts are available, good looking wooden stock , heavy, feels good in the hands, taped for scope mounting, hidden rotary mag.
Cons: barel band, no last shot-bolt open, wooden stock not as durable as synthetics, no swivels, difficult to get mag out,
What I need the rife for:
Informal shooting, casual plinking, caring in the “back country” just in case of emergency to hung on small game, (cottage in the very deep woods and I mean it) I’m NOT planning to do “heavy upgrades” to it, I might get a scope and high cap mag, that is it.
I can get Marlin for $173 and Ruger (standard) for $219. I think this is ok price, any suggestions? (No mailing options are considered)
So if you have any experience with these 2 rifles, please share with me, Thank you, all.
