Marlin Canadian Tactical Troop

Back from the range, I was short on time and only had factory 300 grainers. These are pretty tame and slow. After 3 rounds I had the sights dialled in at 50 yards. Shot the rest of the box and am pleased with the accuracy. I also shot 5 rounds as fast I could cycle this baby at 30 yards and put them in a 4" circle, good enough...

I took great delight in the bang and the push against my shoulder. Sorry no pics, had to take off early to get my daughter a red top for her Valentine's school dance...

Troutseeker - are you going to glue on a scout mount, or use the new lever rail?

I had some time to play with my new to me 444P briefly. It puts two rounds through a slightly elongated hole at 50 yards.

That's with factory 265 grain light mags, using a red dot with no magnification. I could only find one box locally, so after sighting in with both the red dot and irons there wasn't much left for shooting groups. I wanted to keep some on hand as well.

I've got a scope sitting here waiting for a day without so much wind so I can do some testing of handloads. I only mounted the red dot because I didn't have a scope yet, and the factory irons sucked with my eyes. Now that I've seen how well it works at short range, I'm not sure what configuration I'll stick with. Eventually I'll try better irons on it.

With a red dot on it I wish I hadn't sold my bipod - it would have made a great pic for this thread. :p

Caribou_Kid, I am going to use the XS scout mount. It attaches using the rear sight dovetail and the screwholes above the chamber. This leaves my Williams rear sight in place for when I want to shoot irons. I am going to use Warne QD rings and I am thinking a Bushnell 3200 2X6 long eye relief scope.

The mount looks a little funny, but hey! It's a Marlin Tactical...

I'm considering that rear sight as well. My 444 has the weaver rail installed, and the rail can be shortened enough to allow the Williams to fit behind it. That way I'm not limited to the long eye relief scopes.

I chose a banner 1.5-4X32 wide angle scope which compared very well to the leupold VXII in a scope comparison done on marlinowners. It also has an excellent record of standing up to the recoil these little beauties can dish out. For $88 bucks I couldn't resist trying it. :)

I think I'll install the scope now with a set of burris rings I already have, but when I install the peep sight I was thinking of changing to the Leupold quick release rings. I'll be interested in how you like the Warne rings, and may choose that brand instead.

"why not make a tactical .22 club?"

And why not? Didn't Cooper also write a big long chapter on the tactical employment of silenced .22lr in riot control situations? Yes he did.

The pyjama clam with their tactical radios kinda remind me of the drive through at McDonalds. Everybody gotta serve someone.
