I've got the newer version of that Remmy pump gun - a factory 7600carbine in 35Whelen - the closest I've got to a "guide gun". I took it Moose hunting last fall but never got a chance to shoot a big beastie. I think mine might be wearing the same glass as your pictured one - mine has a VariX-II 1x4x20.

Actually we have a VERY healthy black bear population here in NB, but no one here hunts them other than the Americans from the NE. Spring & Fall hunts.

Wouldn't be my first choice on a guiding stint in the far north. Pumps don't have positive enough extraction in extreme cold weather. I'd rather have a bolt gun with a huge claw extractor like a Mauser or pre-64 Winchester, etc.

I wouldn't want a lever action either for the same reasons.
