Marlin quality !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rifle manufactured with a 16" barrel is not restricted and may be used for hunting. I own several of them. I have two Marlin model 1895 SDT rifles in 45/70 with 16" barrels and a Ruger compact .243 with the 16" barrel I believe and one of the Savage .22 trappers with the 13" barrel. As long as the overall length meets the requirements your good to go. But from what I was told you're not allowed to take a rifle and cut it down yourself it has to come from the manufacture that way. Short rifles are great. Jim

Beautiful marlins Jim. Thanks for sharing.
I'm curious about the 1894 though. I'm thinking 1894S maybe TALO edition but wondering why the Buttstock doesn't match the fore-arm? Maybe it's just the photo but it seems the butt is checkered and finished in Mar-Shield and the fore-arm is slim and smooth without checkering, looks like Marlins "cowboy" style. Maybe slimmed and re-finished at some point?

You're very observant. It's a 1894 THE MARLIN LIMITED and you're right a Talo model. The previous owner did not like the chunky marlin forearm so he slimmed it down and gave it an oil finish but never got around to doing the buttstock. I was going to replace the forestock back to original but the new profile was quite comfortable so procrastination took over and there it sits. I'm in no rush if I find one in the parts exchange I'll likely do something about it then. Jim

Beautiful rifle all the same. I'm hoping to fit WWG or MPI furniture on mine.
I contacted both companies and they both told me it would shave at least a pound over the factory walnut. Imagine a 5lb, trapper length 1894SS! Unfortunately imagining is all I can do until it's built. I have to make do with the 'ol 1894P for now. Life is rough!:p

Sun and Steel 77 If you don't mind my asking where were you going to purchase the stock here in Canada ? I called WWG a few years ago about a stock for the guide gun I had at the time and they would not ship to me here. They gave me the name of a dealer gunsmith here in B.C. that they exported to. I phoned him and he did not have any stock at the time but said he would get back to me when his shipment arrived. I was going to get a stock and several internal parts but he never got back to me. I have since bought the WWG happy trigger, bear proof ejector, and alum hi viz magazine follower from Brownells but I didn't think they could ship any parts over a certain value which the stocks would have exceeded. Thanks Jim

MPI is based out of Portland, Oregon. I'm in southern BC. Portland is pretty close to the border. Enough said already...;)
When I called WWG they said they were working on an Export permit. Won't hold my breath though as they didn't seem too eager to help me once they found out where I was from.

" I don't know of anyone hunting with one though and the calibers for the '92 Takedown are .357, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt so those are at best short range deer rounds."

Ha Ha Ha, your funny Fugawi. A .357 is just as good as a .30-30 out to almost 175 yards. Don't get me started on .44 mag and .45 colt for moose and bear to the long side of 100 yards. Not neccessarily with factory ammo though.

I bought one of the new Marlin 336Y from Epps about 2 months ago. Nice little rifle 16 1/4 barrel and a a short LOP great little bush gun super tiny.

So back to the quality issue mine is perfect but the gentlemen at epps told me that marlin sent out pink slips to a lot of its workers because they were moving the plant and 60% of the 1895 45-70 epps had in stock had to be sent back.

Before they let me buy the 336 they took it into the back room and went over the rifle with a fine comb and said it was perfect.

So far no issues other than screws getting loose after a day of shooting a common 336 prob.
