Marlin XL7 Reports

Somebody is wondering what the other 270 groups looked like. Went back up again tonight, and tried out a new target. Here's the two three-shot 100 yd groups with 130 Sierra BTs and 60 and 61 gr of H450.

Adjusted one inch left, and then shot a 2 3/4 inch group at 200 meters. It was very hard to see this target at 200, even at 9 power.

Will try some Grand slams and Partitions tomorrow evening. Going to use this outfit for Spring bear. :)

.....Wow....and this XL7 is stock right Ted? Man, that 200 yd group is nice!!

I wish Marlin chambered these in a short action, in .22 centerfire......one in .223 would be very cool!

They make a XS7...in 7mm-08....I know WSS had one 2 weeks ago. They also had a .25-06 in a XL7.......if it shoots as good as your .270.....it might just become my new antelope rifle!

Yes, both rifles are just as they came out of the box. I am quite impressed at how well the triggers were set up on both the rifles I have.

I am also thinking a 7mm-08 would be a nice one to try. They are supposed to be getting some XS7s in at the Sports Lodge in a few weeks.

I finally found the chance to hammer out some bullets with my cheap $16 Lee Loader, and get out to the range with my 30-06 XL7. I tried five different loads using IMR 4064 powder and 165gr. Sierra Gameking bullets starting at 47grs.

47grs and 47.5 were not very good, so I did not bother taking pic's.

So far 48grs. is the best, but I still have a couple more to try.

I'm strictly a hunter and not a bench rest shooter, so I am sure someone with a better shot from the bench could do better, but so far I am impressed with my $379 rifle :D

This was with 49grs., I have no idea why the 4 bullets seperated like that, but I am guessing it was my fault. I will try 49grs again next time to see if I can get all four shots closer together

Is it only me or 30-06 XL7's blind magazine is difficult to load. It just gets jammed on me. I don't have that problem with my 90 years old mausers!

Mine can be finicky also when I try to load some ammo in to quickly. When I go slow, I have no problem. To be honest I hate this mag and wish there was a floor plate like my Ruger, but they got to cut cost somewhere when selling a rifle so cheap.
