Marlin XL7 Reports

got my marlin xl7 christmas eve from prophet river ( excellent service ) overall i will tell you im not a shooter im a hunter, and this gun looks great and feels great. shot it today, 1 box of shells, in 3 shots from my new scope and boresighted i was within 2-2.5 inches of center at hundred yards, so for hunting it,s perfect. if you are a hunter and not a paper shooter (no disrespect) its perfect. actually my father is now thinking of getting rid of his parker haled 303 for one, he is 71. thanks prophet river...

What caliber? I was looking at hopefully getting one if I decide to get a 30-06
Thanks. I know another feloow one here got the 06 and its a good shooter.

Just got mine out to the range (.270 Win) Also got it from the guys in AB at Prophet River. I was just using some federal 130 factory loads I've had around. 5 shot groups were averaging jusy about 1". I was pleasantly surprised. The fit and finish is really quite good and I like the trigger. I shoot a lot and recoil of a .270 Win doesn't normally bother me but I found this one to fit me well and recoil was very mild, even from the bench. I think this may be the best 'economy' rifle on the market now(sorry, Stevens 200 guys :) ) if my rifle is any indication.

Will you tell us what you were able to buy it for and the name of the shop where you bought it?

Sure can. I got it from a shop in AB-Prophet River Firearms- I get a fair amount of stuff from them and always get great service. They have them on now for $379 although, last time we talked, the were almost sold out. Must have sold a pile of them as they had a lot this past summer. People must be impressed.

The owner of the shop is here on CGN as SakoAlberta (Clay is his actual name)

Clay...do you know if Marlin plans on making these rifles in stainless?...I understand that they are planning on coming out with a short action model XS7 this spring...A stainless SA in 7-08 and 338Fed or .358Win. would be sweet!

Here's the 3rd, 4th and 5th shots from my 30-06, after two shots at 25 yds to confirm the boresighting.

Was impressed enough, that I ordered a 270. It is now here, but -41C is just too cold to give it a try. Maybe tomorrow. :)

Ted;
That is impressive. What's not to like about these rifles? I think Marlin has a real winner. Some may not like the blind mag but it doesn't bother me much. I load, walk all day, and unload at dusk so its not a big deal-kinds nice knowing I won't drop the clip mag out. :)

I know if I don't buy it it will go up in price and I will regret it. I find prices moving around a lot today. Last Sept. I purchased a Marlin 1895 45/70 for $599 and now the same one sells for $744.99. $145 is quite a jump in only a few months.

Well, the C$ has come back a little. Maybe prices will level out a bit now? Does anybody know where a guy can get an XL7? Not many shops seem o have them in stock.

Not sure who has them in stock? Talked to Clay at Prophet River and they are down to one as of today; not sure which caliber. I know they have a bunch coming in Feb. Anybody else have them?

SakoAlberta who started this thread sells them and has some last time I checked their ad.
