Marstar 14" Norinco 870 range report

It's a Streamlight mount and it's actually pretty solid but I don't like the placement of the light. My hand is hitting it after the 3rd or 4th shot in a high speed string.

I'm actually looking at this same mount on ebay. Can you not rotate it to the upper left or right so that it's parallel to the fore-end? The pic I see on ebay shows it that way.

This was the plan for my next trip to the range. Thanks.

See how that works out for you. If not, keep the TLR1 for a handgun and get a TacStar UBM barrel mount and then grab a G2 or something from SureFire. I think that would work alot better and would put it on a better angle for you.

Stupid me I thought the 870 was a Remington!

No your right. Remington is the original MFG of the 870. Norinco produces a copy of it, named the HP9-1 but it just mostly called the Norinco 870 because it can use any part made for the original 870 and is pretty much a carbon copy. (bar the "Made in China" stamp on the right side.) Thats probably due to the original 870 design, and not norincos copying skills.

As far as the +1 extension loosening, heres what ya do: De grease the threads (both sets), then heat up the male threads with a heat gun and rub them with a hot-melt glue stick (not alot, just a thin coat) allow to cool, then heat up the female end of the extension and screw it in place.

Wont move until you want it to, if it gives you a hassle coming apart just warm-er up again.

Good Call!
When I first bought a hot melt glue gun I thought it would have limited use but I'm constantly amazed at what I use it for.

The Wilson +1 extension does not stay on. After 5 or six rounds it loosens up.

I used 3 drops of blue LocTite on the mag extension. It stayed nice and tight after a session of 100 birdshot and 40 rounds of slugs and OO buck.

This HP9-1 cycles perfectly and is smooth and really fast.

I used Loctite on the bead too. There's not very much brass thread to hold it so you can't tighten it properly without risk of stripping the brass. If ever there was a place for Loctite, this is it!

I found that it helped to gun grease the action bars on my 'rinco, as they look to be slightly parkerized also, hence slightly gritty if not lubed...happens to the best of us. :D

Geologist

Help me understand why it is advantageous to spend the money on tricking out the HP-9 when you could buy a Fabarm Martial with all of the features (ghost ring sights, chokes, forend rail) from the factory?

Is it just that accessories are more difficult to find for the Fabarm (side saddle)?

Thanks

I've asked myself the same question after I totalled all the bills!:D

Fabarms Martial Tactical with 2 chokes and wrench, delivered plus GST: $943

HP9-1 with 2 chokes, wrench, GR sights, +1Mag extension, delivered plus gunsmithing plus GST: $840.

So I saved $100.

But damn this thing shoots well and is RELIABLE. I have put +500 birdshot and + 200 buckshot/slugs through it. It's a heavy shotgun so the recoil with heavy loads is nothing compared to my 18.5" Mossberg 500.

Sounds reasonable.

But don't you think Fabarms martial has better quality and nicer looking? I mean after you through a decent amount of slugs, you may see the difference.
