marstar 70,000/10,000 SKS, eta aug 20th, price $189 new military.

The main reason to buy an SKS is price. They were dirt cheap to produce, they made way too many of them before they came up with a better design. Very few of them will ever be a collectors item, probably only the "-D" versions.

Lever arms has a decent deal on SKS's but it is mostly due to the cheap ammo (not the cheap gun).

I would like to see hundred dollar rifles. Then I would buy a couple. After-all overseas you can buy them for about 20 bucks and even then you feel a bit ripped off. People are far richer then they realize on this continent.

You forgot to mention all the other fees, permits and hard work involved in importing.

I myself think $200.00 for an unissued, all milled parts, military rifle is quite fair.

Umm... yeah. Hate to burst your bubble fella, but hte SKS was EXENSIVE to produce compared to guns like the M16 or AK47. The SKS was of all milled construction (with the exception of the late contruction chinese ones). Milling = expensive. Milling tools wear fast and are costly. The labour to run manual milling machines is extreme (CNC didn't exist mack then).

The ONLY reason SKS's are inexpensive today is because communist countries with free labour and no cares about the cost of things made millions of them. The Russian and Yugo SKS rifles, for example, are VERY well made rifles. Very solid, very reliable and reasonable finish. The stock design is a bit ugly to some folks, but it's functional.

The SKS-D isn't collectible at all. It's a stamped steel civilian and cheapened POS compared to the milspec guns.

Finally, the only $20 SKS rifles overseas are the ones you buy in thousand-quantities from combloc countries clearing out war reserves or rusted out POS rifles in the congo. If you can show me nice SKS rifles for sale retail in europe, please do. I'll be happy to import a bunch, probably Johnone would be interested as well.

$20 rifle + packaging + paper work and permits in host country + potentially paying an in country agent to broker the deal on your behalf + shipping + brokerage + stocking costs................. I guess $100 ish is possible if John is able to pull off near free shipping, have the brokerage fees waived and doesnt mind converting his business model to a not for profit operation.............

Only reason the SKS rifles are so cheap in Canada is because we are one of the few places in the World were they can still be imported. The importation of the Chinese and Russian versions are banned in the USA and all versions no matter where they are made are banned in many countries in Europe and other places in the world.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was the occasional 'brown envelope' as well.

disclaimer: My statement was a generalization and in no way reflects how firearm importers do business

i pumped 300 rounds out of my sks-d yesterday,no jams or problems, thing is cool, i would not call it a POS, its not a super accurate rifle but its fun and cheap to shoot. The 5/30 rd mags make it look real mean, my buddies loved it.

Anybody who says an SKS-D, or any SKS for that matter, is a POS doesn't know what he is talking about. Sorry if anybody gets offended but that is the truth.

Very true, I've heard a few friends of mine say it must be a pos for the price. Once they went out shooting they changed their minds.

It's a very good gun, thats cheap to buy and shoot.
Can't wait to get 10 more.

Is the chromed bore superior to unchromed in your opinion??

Were military issue Russian sks bores chromed??

I would think it would "a chromed bore" immediately engineer a coming problem with many rounds and wear...?

I totally disagree with you there... the only stamped steel parts of my 'D' are the butplate, mag and stock ferules; everything else is machined except the gas tube which is steel tubing just like it's Military cousins. The fit/finish/function of this rifle is second to none in it's class IMHO.

Why nobody can make an adapter for SKS so it could accept AK mags? On the other hand, what's the purpose? Mag is limited not even to 10 rounds, but to 5!

Personally, I think the look of the mags 'make' the rifle... and when the Zombies come about 5 seconds with a cordless drill and you've got yourself a 30 rounder.;)

wow! 70,000 sks?? there are that many people that want these rifles?

Hopefully not as some people are going to want to buy more then one.

Marstar is a supplier to other distributors too right? They should have more then 1/3 of them sold soon as they get here.
