Last week I asked about the progress of my M14 order. They said they were working hard to get them all shipped.
Mine arrived two days ago. Receiver stamped 2007 I assume year of manufacture? Seril number is strange. 001270 Seems kinda low?
When I opened the box I found the wood covered in white fuzz. Mold, I assume.
I took the action out of the stock and washed stock with hot water and Gojo hand cleaner and a plastic scrub pad. It cleaned up easily, Wood seems lighter now. I think there was dirt on the stock.
Then I washed the stock with Javex bleach to kill the mold. Will go to Lee Valley and get some nice oil finish to seal up the wood.
The action and trigger were sprayed with break cleaner and wiped off with a paper towel. The action was not coated with cosmoline, but what looks like a medium weight oil. Then I re-sprayed with Break Free.
The trigger is just about perfect. A two-stage trigger with a crisp 4 pound weight. I would not touch it.
Here are some pictures. I don't know what variations there are, good or bad, in the possibilities of the rifle. I look forward to bedding it and taking it to the M14 clinic in Barrie in three weeks.
I am very pleased. Hope it shoots...
