What was advertised was a NM M14 sight, I bought what turned out to be neither. This is difference, The M14 drum goes to 11 (for 1100 meters)
& and has a stamped "M" to signify it is calibrated in meters. The M1 drum goes to 12 and has no stamp and is calibrated in yards.
In retrospect having said garand, I looked at the marstar sight and it's elevation is to 11 but has no "M". So it's not an M14 sight nor a garand?
The windage drum is also unmarked.
On the positive side, I'll speculate that SAI made these sights. As SAI uses drums that are unmarked and should/assumed/presumably
be in meters. I'm not sure meters or yards, but as you say "not shooting competition or communists."
P
I would think that SAI did not make the Marstar sites....
I assume they are made in China or Taiwan....
Here is why;
-The finish is not on par with anything made by SAI.
-SAI does not "parkerize" in battleship grey
-There are tool marks (very very light ones) that you don't see on SAI sights.
-You see the same rear sites offered on American web sites. The ones I have seen, state "off shore reproduction Garand complete rear sight".
-If the sites were made in the "free world" Marstar would be charging $40-$70 more and stating where they were made.
In comparison to a $175 USGI or Danish Garand rear, the $100 "off shore" option is still viable. I have installed a few dozen (from the previous batch, not the current ones) and they all "click" and adjust. They return to zero. I have never tried to see if the numbers correspond to ranges in Y or M, but when you zero the sight and slip the scales, they just work. Which is not usually the case with factory Norinco rear sights.....
I will now bow out of this conversation.....
