master key legal?

I cannot confirm this.... but I believe the firearms act classifies whatever firearm the MasterKey is attached to results in its classification, as the rifle its attached too is the MasterKey's "Stock"... as the MasterKey is already Non-Restricted in the FRT Database... Im thinking they would also measure the OAL length of the M.Key from the muzzle to the end buttstock of whatever firearm its mounted to to ensure that the 26" OAL criteria is met to stay Non-Restricted...

Mount it to a Springfield M1A in an EBR stock chassis system = NonRestricted...

Mount it to an AR-15 = Restricted...

You can essentially do this with a Dominion Arms Grizzly 8.5" as I dont think the USA would approve any export paperwork on the legit MasterKeys...

Again I think thats how this all works... but cant confirm 100%.... anyone else have info on this??? :D

if you keep the shotgun OAL 26" then it will be NR mounted on a NR rifle

if you mount on a RES gun then you cant shoot it outside the range anyway

if the shotty OAL is less than 26" then it would prob have to be reclassified to RES

I dont believe the rifle it attaches to becomes a "stock"

ok i kind of understand. i am thinking of makeing a gun close to billys gun. like an AR but then a non restricted shotgun on the bottom attached to a pickatnny rail not a permanint mount.

OMG i love this sight, i just figured out what im going to do with this chinese sks sitting in a tapco stock i took on a trade. i have an extra well abused mossy 500 that should work great for this.

I would make sure to all those interested parties who want to tackle a MasterKey clone project to ensure that the stocks you will be mounting these monsters too are atleast rated for undermounted firearms to be attached too (SAFELY ;)), as these little shotguns can produce a TREMENDOUS amount of recoil forces, especially with the heavier loads, that can wreak havoc on mounting devices/clamps/etc etc. As far as mounting is concerned, I would try to get it as close to KAC's mount for complete safety. As for the stocks, theres a couple manufacturers that are rated for undermounted devices, Sage EBR's, the ETA Bulldozer, and Rhino rails I think are as well, those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment...

I just dont want to see any "My MasterKey Clone/MasterGrizz sent me to the ER" threads... stay safe fellow CGNr's!!! :D:D:D

To correct some misinformation here, when you mount the shotgun to a rifle, the host rifle becomes the "stock" and counts towards overall length.

This way, you can mount a pump action shotgun of any length to a non-restricted rifle and it would still be non-restricted as the whole thing would be over 28".

That is interesting, and if it is actually true, makes a very surprising amount of sense considering that we live in an age of convoluted firearms laws.

it makes sense, but where is it written because as you know CDN gun laws dont have any sense

Laws are written to prohibit things, not to allow them- ie- if it isn't explicitly disallowed- it is allowed. Clear as mud?
This issue has come up here quite a few times and Armedsask's opinion is correct based on the laws as written and the CFC's current interpretation of them.
That said, I have yet to see pics on here of anyone rocking a made in Canada masterkey restricted or not.

me at a rifle match years ago.

spoke with the RCMP firearm forensics about it. the shotgun stays whatever it is along with the AR as restricted. AR is considered the stock, so you have a restricted stock attached to non-restricted gun. so for all intents and purposes, a quasi restricted shotgun.

What kind of mount is that?

The Sage InterBar system would be fairly easy to reverse engineer. you would likely want to up the size of the rail holes on the top of your shotgun to something more substantial. A couple 1/4-28 UNF screws would likely do the trick.
