While I've had the odd brain fart moments during the matches I've shot at (I'm still green at this) but today I had my biggest brain fart moment at the L1 match at HAHA.

On the 4th stage, I was the first one in the shooting rotation. Did my walk-thru and mentally figured out how I was going to tackle the stage. Stage starts off with the gun loaded and on the table, shooter sitting on a stool with hands on knees. On the command LAMR, loaded up using my Barney mag, turned to confirm to the RO that gun on table is loaded at the start of the stage <insert brain fart here>, he says "Yes" and I set my gun on the table, sit down, hands on knees. RO kindly asks "Is your gun loaded?" and I replied, "Yes it is." RO, says "Okay.... <I'm thinking, maybe something's not right> Shooter ready? Standby... BEEP!" and grab the pistol, get to the first target, pulled trigged "BANG!" pulled trigger for second shot "CLICK!" "CLICK!" I'm thinking WTF and start remedial action figuring it's a nosedive or jammed mag and press the mag release to drop it... then it occurs to me where I failed when no mag drops free. I must've lost about 4-5 secs. DUH!

I finished the stage and my buddy says "Everyone noticed you didn't load a mag and wanted to tell ya but couldn't." I know that feeling 'cause I've seen it or other "Oops" moments happen to him and other shooters in the past. Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and hopefully learn from your mistakes.

Another minor brain-fart moment that seemed to have creeped up in my last two matches seem to be my trigger finger refusing to pull the trigger even when my brain and eyes confirm "Sights lined up! FIRE!" and my finger says "When? Now?" :p

Anyone else suffer from the odd brain fart moment during a match? C'mon, I know there are a few other "human" shooters out there.

That's ok

At the last shotgun match at oxford I saw two people try to shoot a stage with no belt and ammo on...bunch of zeroes on those scoresheets

When I was brand new I would often forget about targets if there was one or two away from the rest of the of the targets. Like if I had to turn left and shoot 30 feet away and then the rest of the targets were right, I would just totally skip it because I forgot.

I also know that when an RO questions me about something or doesn't say if finished unload and show clear when when I think I am done the COF, I know I missed a few targets or something as they try to help you out.

Stupidest thing I have done was I was loading with ammo loading a mag and I got called to the safety table and I came and put all my ammo down on the table without thinking. Somebody tapped my shoulder and I realized what I had done and quickly picked up the ammo and put it in my pocket. The table was empty but still a no no.

Biggest issue I have had with an RO was I LAMR and then put my gun back on my holster while keeping my hand on it and walked to my starting spot. I guess he wasn't familiar with my holster as i have a DAA Alphax so I held it as I didn't want to lock it so it doesn't fall out. He accused me of just walking around with my gun out of the holster. He let it go after the score keeper said I was fine but he wanted to DQ me.

I also always get accused of not dropping the hammer on my single action gun during LAMR because they think I am shooting production :)

Good times.

My brain farts have become fewer with the more training i do.
I hate when i go search for targets.
Unpreparedness on a thinking stage and i step left instead of right then search for the one im missing!

Im so used to wearing the protective equipment as an RO i walked up to the competitor with no glasses or ear muffs oblivious to what i was missing.

I'm an equal opportunity brain-farter. I try to have at least one in every match. Will see what embarrassment I heap upon myself at HAHA on Sunday...

Good luck. You should have better weather than we had today. It was drizzling pretty steady all afternoon during the 1pm squad. No surprise, I think I've only been to one match where it didn't rain and I wasn't even shooting!

Had my share.

Last year at my first IPSC shotgun match at Silverdale on the last large stage I forgot to engage the last 5 steel poppers that were set off to the side. The same ones I had reset a half dozen times for other squad mates. RO called out nice and loud, "IIFFFFF finished, unload and show clear'. Knew something was up, just wasn't sure what Too bad to as I thought I had had a pretty good run on a complicated stage with a few swingers etc....up until the point the the missed poppers were pointed out to me

Trinimon,
When was this HAHA match again? Last HAHA match, a 3 stager, was July 23 and next one is not til Sunday.

HAHA is testing out a multi-day match and this 2-day L1 (4 stages/70rnd count) is/was hosted Thursday and Sunday. On the IPSC calendar, it only shows Sunday on the main page but if you go into it, there was a signup for Thursday.

First match after my provisional, its a classifier, two arrays of targets at 5 and 9 meters, in both arrays, you have a no-shot in the middle of the cards stacked up. Instructions are; "put 4 rounds in T1, 4 rounds in T2, mandatory mag change, 4 rounds in t3 & t4.
I'm first shooter of the day and when the beeep went off, i fell on my face hard. Two in top two in bottom, two in t3, yelled "S#it!" Did a mag change and two in t4. I got cleared safely and then the RO looked and asked if i got the stage briefing?
I scored a 0 with 11 misses and 2 proceaderals in 7.4 seconds.
Best part was because i was the first shooter it's been the only time I've ever been in first place of the score sheet.

I saw a guy do almost the same thing at a similar stage in Guelph last month. You can see everyone standing behind him cringe at the same time when he started shooting T3 and T4 without a mandatory mag change then he realized his mistake. He had a good time too.

OMG! That is so true! lol

Yup! Can't agree more! I've missed my share of targets during my run and I was the RO for people up to me so I would have seen the targets already! Tunnel vision and bad memory sucks!

My funniest thing I've seen was a fat guy with a battle belt. On his run, his gear came down and just about pulled his pants off. Good thing fat guys move slowly so he didn't actually trip but it was funny seeing someone trying to pull up his pants with one hand and holding an AR in the other!

Get to the match early and figure out a stage plan way before your run. Read the stage briefing and visualize all aspect of the scenario. Put ALL your mags on the table when the ammo has to come from there. YOU WILL grab that one mag way on the back of your belt and you won't even notice. If you're shooting a stage first, walk the stage as much as you want before you load and MR. Treat every LVL 1 as a LVL 3.

Get there EARLY because that's what show pro's do.
