Here's a recent purchase of mine. Pretty common stuff up here and this one isn't one of the minty ones but still a decent rifle with matching bayo (scabbard is a m/m though). It's a slight upgrade from my other H block so I was happy to add it to the collection.

Basically a standard Port H block except the barrel which seems a bit unusual for a rifle most likely finished in late 41 - early 42. 1939 dated Silesia made barrel blank.

Nice rifle and excellent photos.

I've had few of these Portuguese contracts myself. Getting hard to find in Australia and the nicest of them with the matching bayonet get big coin.

jbmauser,

Congratulations on a very complete photo presentation of your nice "H" block rifle.
Great clear photos.
Does anyone have any idea of how many "H" block rifles exist in Canada?
How many with 'matching' bayonets and scabbards?

David

Thanks David.

I have no idea on numbers up here but they aren't exactly rare. They come up for sale quite often and the prices are climbing steadily.

It seems a good portion have the matching bayo's with them although CanadianAR is working on reuniting those that are missing their matching bayo and anyone can contact him with either the serial of the bayo they have, the rifle they have, or both. He's even managed to reunite one rifle with it's matching bayo!

Yes, pretty standard marking. I believe both my H blocks have that. This one for sure does. The brg WaA497 buttplates are common on all sorts of regular German production K98k's from this time period as well but the "cross" above it is unique to the Port contract.

In a couple weeks I'll be posting a somewhat more scarce F block Port. I need a G block to complete the 937B collection.

The scabbards were numbered to the bayo and rifle, so yes, they all would have had matching scabbards when they left MO. Why mine has a m/m scabbard is any one's guess. Andrew has it in his serial list so maybe the original can be found some day.

Did you see the byf 44 L block I posted Steve? I forgot to send you the album.
