Mauser 71/84

Also have a couple and I do shoot them on occasion. I just cannot understand why folks want to shoot smokeless powder in a black powder rifle. They are not difficult to clean, either the rifle or the brass, and you miss the stink and smoke which is part of the fun!
Speaking of bent bolts in that one pic, years ago the local shop got one in that UPS had managed to bend the bolt BACKWARDS!

Got my brass from NDFS (North Devon Firearms services) Unforetunatly the owner retired, and sold the business. the people who bought it couldn't make a go of it.
Do the current cases have that stepped base?

The ones I got from Epps do have the stepped base to work with the 71/84 extractor.

I'd have to say I'm more worried about case life than the rifle shooting black powder. I've read that if you throw the cases into soapy water immediately then the risk they will get brittle is reduced.

I shoot smokeless mostly because I cannot store black powder right now. Secondly, I don't want to deal with the clean up as the 71.84 is very well built but complex to take apart completely for cleaning.

I do plan to get into BP shooting but down the road as I would like to get a Dreyse needle gun at some point and shoot it.
