I hope this is the correct forum?

This is For The Mauser Collectors .

Has anyone had a look at the Fourth Edition of Mauser Military Rifles of the World, by Robert W. D. Ball? Covering every Mauser model from 1871 to 1945.

I just worked a trade for this book and I am really pleased with the content.

It's 448 pages of pictures and information compared to the third edition with 367 pages. There appears to be more information about the sniper rifles than previous editions. There are more color pictures and they are all through the book not in sections like before. The fourth edition is thicker being 1 5/8" compared to the third edition 7/8".
If you are collecting Mausers or have an interest in them this book is one of the best out there. But to really get into Mausers one book doesn't tell it all you have to hunt around and get different books on the subject.

Third Edition ISBN :0-87349-617-5
Published by Krause Publications U.S.A.

Fourth Edition ISBN 13:978-0-89689-296-5
ISBN 10:0-89689-296-4
Fourth Edition is published by Gun Digest Books, China

I search for titles through abebooks for military titles that are of interest. If there is a book that I am interested in, I go to this site and it will list the sellers and availability in the US and Canada by price. Sometimes there are real bargains.

I hope this will be of interest to Mauser collectors.

4th edition Ball Mauser book

I also recently acquired the 4th ed. of Mauser Milt. Rifles from Amazon.ca.I was uncertain about buying it as I have the first 3 books already and didn't think the newest one would be much different. After getting it I must admit to being surprised and pleased by the increased text and photos. The pics alone make the book worth having. If your serious about Mausers this is a must have.
Enjoy the read!

4th edition Ball Mauser book

Is it worth having the first three issues? Wouldn't the information from the earlier issues be included in the 4th?

I would rather see the book expanded to include all the Mausers after 1945.
Thay did include the Steyr 1912-61 in 7.62 in this issue. I also saw information about the M-954 in 30-06 but nothing on the M-968 "Special Purpose" 308.

The M-968 only came into Canada once in the late 70's or early 80's with the New in the grease 1908's and new 1935's. The only information I found on the M-968 is in an early Janes Infantry Weapons book.
I think it's one of the most interesting of the Mausers, because of the Diopter rear sight and the H&K style front. The muzzle break is of the FN style, with provision for grenade launching. It also has a comfortable rubber butt pad to reduce recoil. I had one and traded it off, it took me some time to find another one, it's not going anywhere.
Interesting how you get attached to one gun and kick your self for letting it go.

Now I need a Portuguese Model 1941 K98 in Excellent condition.
