I was looking through the exchange lately trying to decide on which cheap pump action shotgun I was going to buy. Unfortunately, there were no cheap pumps for sale...

So today I went to a local gun store and purchased a cheap Maverick 88. It came with the 18.5" barrel and a pistol grip was also in the box.

I took it to the range this evening and put 40 assorted rounds through it. It feeds very well, the action is solid and I had no issues with anything I put in it.

My turkey load is going to be 3" Winchester #2's, they patterned so damn well it shocked me!

I fired 5 Brenneke slugs and at 40 yards I had 3 touching and the other 2 about an inch away...

SSG and 00 buck shot very well at defensive range too.

It's light, it's cheap and it works. I'm very pleased with it.

Ive seen a Mav 88 take a lot of abuse and keep on truckin... nothing wrong with the shotgun and the price point...

I did some horse trading and wound up with a Maverick 88 with a 18.5" barrel and love it....I find it very reliable and takes a licking..... I did a lot of practice shooting from the hip last fall with the pistol grip on it and it was fun....250 rounds and counting....my personal choice for bear defense

It will be in the Eberlestock's X1 built in scabbard full of Brenneke's when I'm out fishing or hiking. I was really impressed by the accuracy of these slugs in that shotgun.

After blowing 5 Brenneke's today I still have 45 I'm keeping for big bad bear defense. They should last me a lifetime...

I bought one on Wednesday and so far I love it! I put 50 shells of birdshot through it in about 5 minutes, no hiccups, jams or anything. Can't beat it for the price.

You plan on being attacked by a bear 45 times before you die??? :D

take a look at my "i finally done it thread". 6400+ rounds through my Maverick and it appears that i finally wore out the follower. not too shabby. the rest of the gun is still in great shape.

I bought the same pistol grip 88 cruiser last weekend too. Makes me wonder why I spent nearly a grand on a Supernova Tactical haha. Very fun gun. BTW, where did you find Brennekes in Canada? Are they Brenneke USA or the RIO's from SFRC?

I did find it a very light shotgun, I used the pistol grip with mine at the range one and put the stock back on it as soon as I got home...shooting 3" slugs with the pistol grip is rather painfull on the wrist.

Great shotgun for the money, I love the easy access to the cartridge stop through the loading port on the bottom.

It's an awesome gun for the price, that's for sure. Just do your best to keep the metal surfaces WELL-OILED at all times, as Mavericks(including mine) are prone to developing surface rust faster than some of the better quality brands out there.
