maverik 88

Newbie question I know, but can the Maverick accept Mossberg magazine tube extensions and other accessories?? Thanks

It will accept all 500 parts and accessories. The only thing you cant do is replace the foregrip, the rails are built right into the grip, you can however replace the foregrip including slide rails with a mossy 500 one, and then you can change the grip to your liking.

You can change the forestock as well, but need to get the Mossberg 500 assembly to do it.

Forget the tacticrap add ons. Personally I don't #### around with such things on a gun like this. It works perfect as is. Putting 200 dollars in bolt on parts on a 200 dollar gun just seems silly.

Then again I am the guy who shortened the stock with a hacksaw in 2 minutes with no concern for asthetics.

Also if you are thinking about a different barrel, or changing them later, buy the Mossberg Combo!

I bought the Maverick field model and was looking for a 500 security barrel later and was amazed at the prices!

Way cheaper to just buy the combo if you want to use it for both purposes.

For 2 bills they are the BEST thing going. Have had mine for 2 yrs, love it. Shoots 3 inch and 2 and 3/4 reliably. May buy another toss in the basement as a just in case. I see the synthetic stock now comes with a pistol grip for an extra 10 bucks - NICE.

This is what I did, was strongly considering the Maverick 88 but Cabelas had the Mossberg 500 field/security combo on sale, got 18.5" cylinder and 28" modified barrels for like $250 or something. All I've added is a Talon sling and a few boxes of ammo.

I don't think you can go wrong with either as they're both wildly popular and work great. Decent recoil pads, tough plastic stocks, and reliable operation. Tons of optional goodies out there, too.

I've had one with the two action bars for years now, and it's as smooth and reliable as ever. Recently installed a B-Square saddle rail and Bushnell t-dot optics, along with an ATI six position stock from Brownell's...very happy with the result.

Get the combo bought mine in Edmonton for 300 c/w 18" and 28 " barrels 3 chokes get gun shot 2300 rounds in my first year of trap

I've got the combo model. Had it for about 3 years now. Put well over 6000 tounds through. Only cleaned it a handful of times. Dropped it, kicked it, threw it. Mud, sand, water, snow. Rain, sleet, hail, heat, dust. Birdshot, buckshot, slugs, magnum and non magnum. It's my go to shotgun. It's never let me down. Only modifcations i've made are a no jam follower and detachable side saddle from S&J Harware/

Due to the way the mag tube attaches to the barrel you can't extend a Maverick or Mossberg magazine tube without changing the barrel.

field day

Finally had a chance to take it out for the first time today and I am very pleased. I shot 100 rounds of Winchester 23/4. Half were the gray box universal and half white box super-target stuff. Not one misfire or misfeed. Excellent gun. I also field striped, cleaned and lubed it so for the first time I had a full shotgun experience. It rocked.

How does the Stevens 350/Ithica 37 knockoff by Savage compare? They are on sale at a few places right now. The Stevens 350 seems sturdier than the Maverick, but on sale they are almost the same price. I was thinking about getting one or the other to have as a beater shotgun.

I got a stevens 350 and just grabbed a mav88 8 shot. Even after putting on the new ati stock on the mav88, I say the ergonomics of the stevens 350 is a little better. It may be the larger forend on the stevens and sturdier feel. Though, I like the mav for it's 8 shot capacity and the easy to install scorpion stock ( minus the forend of course, I need a m500 forend).
