Mavewrick 88 kicked my A@%

The OP needs to tell us what weight and velocity of shell he was shooting.

It's been a long time since I picked up a maverick, but every time I hear someone rave about how light a shotgun is, unless its meant to be carried far more than shot, I cringe thinking about the level of recoil the gun must develop. If the maverick is light this could be part of the problem.

Some very good advise on stance and gun mount here too. Most new shooters have a weight backwards stance. This tends to have only the bottom of the recoil pad in contact with the shoulder which concentrates the recoil in a very small area. Perfect receipe for a painful bruise. Nose over toes and have the recoil pad make even contact with your shoulder over its entire surface

Of course. Everyone knows that 12 gauge recoil is inversely proportional to the amount you spent on a shotgun.

No, but is more likely it is poorly designed with comfort in mind and that its recoil pad is ineffective.

More expensive shotguns typically have better designs mitigating recoil and recoil pads that actually work

If it is too mich for ou get a limbsaver or some variant of cushioned recoil pad...they can help a great deal....do it sooner than later. If you develop a flinch it will take a while to get rid of it.

Ty for all the advice ,i did research a bit and did lean forward and did snug it to my shoulder firmly .
as one noted the lop is too much 14.5 around 12-13 would be much more comfortable as i cant quite square up on the target.
As for rounds i had three remiington reduced which i started with still uncomfortable but somewhat bearable
Then winchester x normal loads ,them federal shock magnum all 2 3/4
Which were insane it was alot of fun but no way could i shoot all day
ill look into a hogue stock with a shorter lop and add a limbsaver and see how that does.

cheers
thanks everyone

I had a 500 for a bush gun, firing 3" mag slugs was truly painful. They are great to carry all day, not so great to shoot. Knoxx makes the "Comp stock" which is a traditional style stock that compresses. The pistol grip knoxx stock does not work as well for the Mossberg style controls as it does for the 870 style.
