Primers don't actually pierce... they blow. That is to say the firing pin does not pierce the primer, but the primer ruptures and leaks or blows around the firing pin tip or around the circumference of the primer.

Maximum loads can vary for every rifle, always work up loads for your rifle. Whats listed as a maximum may be an overload in your rifle.

They are getting too hot at the first sign of increased bolt lift or harder extraction.

Things to check...

Neck clearance... thick brass, thick necks = poor bullet release which can lead to pressure spikes

Smaller case volume... the 5.56 brass may be thick enough to affect case volume and load data for 'regular' brass can lead to higher pressures. Lower velocities for the same pressure would be typical.

Thin primer cups... try some CCI or Rem primers and see if you still get pierced primers. that is really hard on the firing pin so find a solution

if you can get some Win brass, load up and see if you still have the same issues.

The steps to reload are always the same so it is best to get a process established so you can make accurate and safe ammo regardless of the chambering or rifle.

Which one would you choose in a bolt gun if you could have only one? Sounds like the arc sure can put out more jam !

I prefer ARC. didn't think i would until I got one. ammo is slightly more expensive to load.

When i was a higher volume shooter i might have said 223. but now with less time for range trips I would prefer the more capable round.

Yeah I think I’d lead toward the more capable one unless short range work is all i wanted to do and high volume plinking, then 223 for sure

What is your firing pin protrusion?
Are you jammed or jumping at 2.455 COAL?
How precisely are you weighing the powder?
SD/ES is?

A heavily fouled bore will increase pressure and can also produce slower MV. 100 strokes of a brush and patches and etc. Could still leave you with a pretty fouled bore if you're not cleaning effectively. Need to check with a bore scope.

223 and heavy bullets isnt exactly a hot rod...however your 2.455" coal seems to suggest your chamber is throated fairly long so id say going to max book charge shouldnt be out of the question, and running them faster than what the book says is theoretically possible.
