Maxus feeding issue

no i definitely dont think you are full of crap, i have the but stock off right now and checking.

it looks to be nice and clean, and i put a few drops in there and cycled sever times for good measure.

one thing though, when cycling slowly i can feel some resistance at this position, its definitely not a linear pull:

While you are there not that it is causing your problem but a good chance to make sure your bolt buffer is still in good shape also. After you clean the recoil leave the stock off when you work the bolt to make sure that little follower/ plunger is not worn and twisting/ sticking also as you work it back and forth with the bolt.

Ok keep looking to find out why?? little burr maybe in the guides or bolt??
Check and clean that mag tube also if that has not been apart and make sure the spring is not relaxed just to eliminate that ( me a little stretch just a bit would happen), look close for a cracked follower also or damage, rust in the tube
have to run for a bit

At that point in the bolt travel you will feel resistance as the bolt starts to travel over the hammer .

hard to fix a gun not in your hands at least for me. Don't let this stop you from buying a maxus

yeah but it basically stops right there unless im pulling hard/follow through. so maybe trigger group problem?

3macs1: how do I go about taking out the mag spring? doesnt say in the manual....im just assuming unscrew the cap

When you take the forend off and remove the barrel you will see a small hole on the top of the mag tube just behind the cap .you need to depress the lock that is in that hole with a pin punch as you turn the cap out with a large flat blade screw driver . first remove the mag plug though .

Thanks Rembolt.
From others which is what you are saying
There is a small 'pin' looking thing on the top of magazine tube. You simply need to depress that 'pin' with a small punch while unscrewing the spring retainer. The 'pin' is not a spring loaded detent pin, its actually a raised "nipple" on the spring retainer, so you have to push fairly hard on it. Once you move that nipple out of its hole, simply unscrew the spring retainer. Naturally, the spring is under tension, and will make a fool of you if you're not on your toes. I recommend inserting the punch or a screwdriver into the larger hole on the bottom of the tube to hold the spring, so you can release the tension on your own terms.

When re-assembling, insert the spring, hold it in place using the punch or screw driver again, and screw in the spring retainer. When the nipple reaches the top edge of the magazine tube, you may need to depress it again as you turn the retainer. Once it is below the top edge of the tube, simply screw in the retainer until the nipple snaps into the hole on the top of the tube. Done.

Yes as you pull the bolt reward it a pretty good bump as the bolt starts to travel back over the hammer . if your only pulling it back easy you would almost think there is something blocking the bolt from traveling fully reward .

Yes that mag tube spring is a hand full for sure  . your best bet may be to return the the gun to your nearest browning smith and have him look at the gun . I am still of the mind that carrier is not lining the shell up with the bore .

yeah there closed tomorrow so i will be doing that first thing monday morning. i really want to go to sporting clays tomorrow morning, but dont want to deal with this thing jamming at every station :( I will mention that on monday for sure. thanks for your guys help!

After playing with a dummy shell and manually running it through the gun fed from the mag as I pull the action open . the carrier lifts the shell and the front of the shell rides against the barrel tang in the 10 oclock position .there is probley a milimeter clearance on the ejection port side of the chamber as the shell starts into the chamber.

Well I sure hope you get it looked after as the maxus is truly a nice shotgun . I love mine and would buy another in a second . as it cycles everything I feed it from 2 3/4" 1 oz reloads to 3" steel waterfowl loads .

I just did this also and mine does the same. When it goes slow its fine, when it goes fast its almost like it flicks it up, hits the tang and trys to self eject before the bolt catches it. I dunno weel see on monday I guess.

NVG, is there anyone else that shoots with you that has a Maxus as well? If so, swap trigger assemblies with them for a few rounds and see what happens. If the other guy's gun starts doing the same thing and your's clears up, you'll will have isolated the problem to the trigger/carrier assembly and one of it's components. Your carrier sure doesn't look right to me.
