May 22 Postal strike?

Our local Canada post employees are excellent. People think mail delivery should be cheap or an essential service. If so take it away from the crown corporation management goofs that have been trying to run it into the ground so it will be privatized and the CEO expects he will get a big bonus for doing so.
People with good wages can afford to spend money in our businesses. Maybe even buy guns.

Canada Post is still carrying billions in pension debt it must pay to former workers back when it was still part of the government as well as new pensions, with long term liabilities of almost 28 billion.

Canada Post is effectively bankrupt.

Crown Corporations are the worst kind of entity. The government is the sole shareholder, and expects to make money (in the form of tax revenue) while dictating how a company is run (government style policies) which cannot work for an organization that must generate it's own revenue legally, unlike the government that just steals our $ with rule of law (which they can change at any time) and effectively has unlimited funding with zero accountability.

Add in the fact that a lot, not all, postal carriers finish their routes that are supposed to take 8 hours in just 4. Then get the rest of their shift off with pay after dropping the undelivered mail off at the local post office for pick up...
The root problem is that the union wants MORE employees making MORE money, but has yet to figure out that without BOTH SIDES changing their strategy. The union need to realize that if it doesn't "cut the fat" to allow for wages to rise while eliminating inefficiency, and Canada Post needs to realize that they need to change their model to survive. If the two sides don't come to these realizations Canada Post will be dead or privatized within 5 years.

Both sides are at fault.

There are things that don't and will never turn a profit. It is an essential service in my opinion but is very much under appreciated and under utilized. Do we expect the police, Healthcare or military to turn a profit? Public transit and the PO should be thought of in similar terms. It makes the country work.
Business should be required to use certified mail more often for letters that have any legal implications like investment, mortgage refinancing etc...
Don't give junk bulk rates unless you make them pay the recycling costs.

Good luck finding people willing to walk outside all day long carrying a heavy bag for minimum wage.
yes because CP posties work sooooooo hard,,they days of the heavy bags are Longggggg gone,
they dont even do a full eight hour shift.but get paid for it anyways,,cushiest job ib canada,

Cops make a pile of revenue off of traffic violation tickets and such
Firefighters would be a negative revenue generator

While police generate revenue, like Can Post it's still a negative cash flow.
Maybe all roads should have tolls, increased until the make profit. Or better yet let's make sure sanitary sewers turn a profit by way of surcharges or shut them down. šŸ˜‰

Canada Post receives strike notices from CUPW – customers should be prepared for possible service delays

Today, Canada Post received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), for both Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units. The notices indicate that CUPW intends to begin strike activity as of Friday, May 23 at 12:00 am local time, unless the parties reach agreements before then.
Our operations continue as usual at this time.

What you can expect

In the event CUPW initiates rotating strike activity, Canada Post intends to continue delivering in unaffected areas while working to reach agreements. We will work to minimize service disruptions, but customers may experience delays.
In the event of a national labour disruption, mail and parcels will not be delivered and no new items will be accepted until the disruption is over. All mail and parcels in our network will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume.

Following either a rotating strike or a national labour disruption, processing and delivery may take some time to fully return to normal.
The potential for another strike comes at a critical moment for the postal system. Since 2018, the Corporation has recorded more than $3 billion in losses before tax, and it will post another significant loss for 2024. In early 2025, the Government of Canada announced repayable funding of up to $1.034 billion for Canada Post to prevent insolvency.

Negotiations update

Canada Post remains committed to reaching collective agreements focused on protecting and enhancing the wages and benefits that are important to our people while reflecting the Corporations’ current realities.

Stay up to date

We’ll notify you if there is a labour disruption of any kind, and keep you informed as the situation develops so you can plan accordingly. Continue to check our website to get updates and stay informed with the latest information on negotiations.

let CP workers starve, until they tell their corrupt union to get their #### together,ALL these postal workers are EXTREMMELLY well paid for cushy jobs they have, new couriers will pickup the slack, same as they did last time,CP LOSt a lot of big contracts to these other options last time, this time might be the nail in coffin,if they think they can survive on letter carrying,,LOL..good luck with that.these new couriers should seriously think about opening postal services in all their depots locations, and start doing letter traffic included with their parcel trucking, the postal union would freak,
