This must be the same reason why a lot of "artefacts" at Canada parliament's sessions look "a little goofy".
Perhaps many of its politicians too...

Wow those intantry types certainly wouldn't want to stumble or stop mid march less you might find a pointy spikey bayonette sticking out of your chest.

they are not "all looking in different directions"
the ranks are all looking eyes right (with the exception of one guy) as they pass by the inspection stands, except the right row who are all looking straight ahead so they can see where they are going and the other ranks pace off of them...
 
Wow, they must save those old PPSH41's JUST for Naval parades. I don't think any are on active issue anymore.

The M44's are not surprising - the Russian army uses them alot ceremonially, almost as often as the SKS.

What IS surprising is that none of the SKS's are chromed.

May 9th is Victory in Europe day in WW2, or as the Soviets called it, "THe Great Patriotic War." The pictures of the parade show troops marching to commemorate that day, in period uniform with period weapons.
 
stue: typo on my part, I meant chromed bayonet on the SKS's, though now that I look closer - the bayos are covered by flags and might indeed be chromed.
 
I had to look 3 times but I tend to agree with Claven2. Thems be 91/30's. More the reason to have concern with the marching boys behind you...
 
Those sks's are to short to be taken seriously. They should man up with some svt's. Btw, I think they should do the same thing here on Nov 11, have the army march down a main street in period uniform( full battle dress) with the appropriate arms. Start at the front with war of 1812 & end at the present day. Would really give the vets a treat me thinks & tweek the anti's to boot(they would soil themselves at the sight of a bren).

Those hats look great at hiding a DA or bouffant hair. Jeez, the guy in the foreground looks kind of like my CSM.

Not much of a day for Eastern Europe, though. I was at a solemn ceremony on May 10th to commemorate those soldiers who were trapped in the Kurland pocket at the end of the war. For the Baltics the day is a sad one.

It was a nice ceremony. I even got to talk with some old soldiers from the 15th and 19th Waffen SS.
