Hey All,

I'm starting a project rifle (Savage 200 base platform) pretty soon and am trying to get all my ducks in a row.

I'd like to go with something like a McMillan A5 adj. stock - but I'm having a hard time swallowing $700+ for a stock - no matter how good it is.

I'm interested in the A5 because of the notch in the bottom of the butt for your weak hand (not sure what it's officially called), as well as the adjustable cheek piece.

I've been searching for a few weeks now but can't find anything suitable - I'm hoping someone else might know of a stock with similar options but doesn't cost quite as much?

Thanks for your time,
bcode

Check out bell and carlson's stocks, they're less expensive and there's a couple models with the butt hook

The Choate tactical looks pretty nice.
From their web site:

For orders outside the USA:
Phone # 1-303-798-5604 Fax 1-303-798-5624 etssusa@usa.net

Give 'em a try & let us know what you find out.

You're right, it's looking like the best contender so far... I'm curious which web address you found your information at?

I thought I was at the Choate site, but you've supplied different information than what I have (http://www.RifleStock.com/catalog_page_detail.cfm?recordno=1&Product_CatalogID=2974&ProductNumber=25%2D06%2D01&ProductCode=42&ProductSubCodeID=185&NewProduct=0) so I just want to be sure.

Thanks,

Well, that was fast. Along with information about exporting stocks to Canada, I asked for verification that the Stevens 200 would be a "drop-in" fit.

Just got a reply from Fred Choate:

Hi! Yes, the stock will fit. I am guessing you need a Model 10 short action. We do not export, but have a local company getting set up to export. they will be ready in a few weeks. I will forward your info to the company.

They will contact you once they are ready.

Thanks,
Fred Choate

Will keep everyone posted about which company contacts me and what sort of arrangement they have setup.

Cheers,

warren: Weren't you a resident of my neighbourhood not too long ago? :D

ITAR controls the export of all firearms and relevant parts, excluding non-class-III shotguns.

the DSP-83 form is the standard form to have a stock exported. It MUST name the individual receiving the item, therefor, requires a personalized copy for every order (costing a company time). There is a $100USD margin where this form is not required for smaller parts. The spirit was to allow small screws and pieces for repair (only) to be available to the international market. Stocks, actions, ammunition, rifle scopes, and some other notables cannot be exported without a DSP-83 form, regardless of their value.

Dunno but I've never had any forms required for purchasing stocks from mcmillan (3 so far)? is this only certain companies?
