McMillan Stock vs Accuracy International Chassis

I have had both stocks. To be honest I switched to the McMillan and have not looked back. I had the A5, A2 and now the M40....I love that stock. I really love the solid feel of the McMillan stock!

I think its mcmillan I'm gonna go with! just gotta decide between A4 and A5... iv seen pics of A5's with heavy MUT barrels and i like the look. but i can't seem to find a pic of a heavy barrel on an A4.

Does anyone have any A4 builds with heavy contour barrels they could share?

IIRC, one difference might be that the A4 doesn't have the "butt hook" other than that, I'm sure they are the same?

Be careful not to assume that you should not bed the AI.
Even the AI will show accuracy improvements and more consistent point of aim if bedded.

Give some thought to practical functionality where you intend to shoot and how cooperative is each stock for the accessories you would need to use.

You want to get into long range competition...
Well the type of competition does matter...
bench rest, F-class or sniper match - very different ergos for each.

^^^^^ agreed . I just got my AI back from the Chou Bros for bedding and let me tell you I got a big improvement .

^ +1

My groups shrunk in half when I bedded the rear tang on my long action in a AI chassis. My short action wasn't as drastic but it shot well before the bedding.

Try before you buy. Its all ###ual preference as we say. If i had to chose, i would stick with McMillan, but, again. Try em bolth. (Psssst... A5)

I went with an AI chassis........well kinda!!

I hope it will fit me.

Did you go pistol grip or the older thumb hole stock sides?

Some guys don't like the thumbhole because it is one grip size only, the pistol grip has different size back straps that can be swapped out for small to large hands.

I heard this a few times but have you ever seen different size back straps for sale?

Pistol grip. I managed to buy this. Roedale RCS II for Tikka T3 :)

I'm a very happy camper.

The new rifles that just came out (AT and new AX) have them. AI is still gearing up with all the accessories for their new line of rifles, but I imagine they will be available soon.

Go to their website on the AX page h ttp://www.accuracyinternational.com/aiaxrifles.html and hover over the little tab beside the pistol grip. It comes up as " User configurable in minutes with replaceable pistol grip back straps".

The AT uses the exact same rear grip, held in place by clips and an allen bolt (I have a pair of the new sides).

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting on them for my AXMC, it's said "coming soon" since I bought my rifle over a year ago. Don't really bother me anyhow, I don't mind they way they are from the factory anyway.

I'm thinking about a new version AICS stock but the price tag for a long action is scaring me. $1895 plus tax

The new style butt stock is very comfortable and easy to configure.

When they release the new version for a T3 I will be picking one up, have the barrelled action spun up waiting. And yes I won't be holding my breath for this either LOL.

They are a small operation compared to other manufacturers, one factory with 75 employees supplying the world. They only make so many rifles per year and the demand for them outweighs the supply. Now add to that that they just completely changed their line up with new products that they have to make new parts for.
The guys in the states are brutal with demand since so many want an AI rifle and have that "I want it and I want it now" mentality. Their expectations are unrealistic. Yes I agree it will be a long time before they get to the AICS for the T3.

I recently finished a left hand build for myself and was torn between the same two options, went with the McMillan and Im totally 100% happy with it. Ordered direct from McMillan over the phone and the customer service was excellent. Only drawback is it takes about 6 months from order to delivery.
