Interesting new owner. Group.

Sako 85's is another

Apparently there are a few different "sako 85" rifles, enough that they got too many returns from people who ordered the wrong configuration for their rifle.

Talking with the good folks at McMillan on that very subject. Apparently the return rate to them for stocks ordered to fit Sako, Savage and Browning is quite high due to people not realizing how many permutations their rifle has. Sako for example changed their mag retention and bottom metal a couple of times apparently yet still call the 85's but these differences are enough to make things not fit properly so rather than dealing with the constant returns, new management opted to just not produce stocks for the rifles that were causing headaches. A shame but understandable.

I highly doubt that.

That does seem like an unlikely move. Even if the 700 never gets made again (which I doubt) there are millions of them out there, and there are plenty of other manufacturers making rifles with the same footprint so new rifles are being built even if they're not from remington.

My only real complaint with McMillan is the length of time between ordering and receiving. If that could be improved on then it would be great- but I also know that quality takes time and costs money, so maybe my hope would be for that they don't take longer to arrive. :)

As far as the Sako inlets go, the order form identifies both the action length and the type of recoil block being used. If they are dealing with returns, maybe someone on McMillan's production floor doesn't know the difference in the blocks. I am quite disappointed as only last week I wanted to put in an order for a couple of Sako 85 stocks. Got an email from Gerald indicating only flat top inlets for Sako.

Which ones?

So far I’ve read online ruger and sako - so I emailed them, they said they are indeed quitting multiple stocks and will be releasing a list soon of the stocks they no longer inlet. They will still offer them as solid blanks, but no inletting.... sounds handy.

If the quote from ATRS I posted above has any merit, looks like Browning and even Savage may be on the chopping block too?

Exactly! And higher. Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if the grip angle changed slightly on the Hunters Edge either.

Changed to what? The current hunters edge is perfect. The classic rifle mans lines from years ago. Slim and lightweight. I’ve owned half dozen of them. If you like a more vertical grip, the HTG cam in at the same weight, but wasn’t my thing...
