McMillan stocks to Canada

So answer the question then, who are they? List them please for all of us. Are these the only ones you know of?

X2 - I'd like to know whose these small, niche, stock makers are. I am unaware of anyone making quality stocks for precision tactical rifles (not F-Class where there are some fine laminate workers ) whether for 'friends and family' or for more general consumption. Making things that look like stocks but are poorly finished and sorely lacking in QC does not, in my book, count.

Here's an interesting thread where someone made the same type of mold in order to put fiberglass over a wood core:

hmmm well, I spoke directly with corlanes and asked what the stock options were.... I was told they have a house brand and the mcmillans ect. Also there is a guy, an old gent who has been making composite stocks for guys I bump into in my area. I've met him and he seems to be pretty up on the latest happenings in the shooting community so I'm sure he is no secret. I highly doubt he is marketing online, which I suppose is the only example that will be accepted here.

I make my stocks, currently as a hobby, much differently than in the past. I personally have many hurdles to jump before I even attempt to mass market a rifle stock again.
but for those who care to know, and do the research, I use a method known as VA- RTM. we get to use cool stuff like nitrogen and negative atmospheres n stuff :D I make other stuff too, like custom ceiling sound bars in carbon fiber and aramid weave for my jeep :D and I made some really cool consoles for all my buddies tin boats so we can steer and not have to hold tiller handles all day.

right now, instead of using my skills and thousands in tools for rifle stocks..... I am actually working on crossbow limbs for my latest project and also in the learning curve of wrapping carbon fiber and fiberglass over mandrels to make some high performance fishing rod blanks :D
I also make, as a hobby, custom dashes in composite for friends, custom stereo enclosures and speaker units wrapped in composite...... hmmmm come to think of it, it is the millions of little projects I got going on is the reason I don't knuckle down and give McMillan a run for their money...... and ya, that's supposed to be funny , not literal ;)

I remember a while back, Ian Robertson posted..... want to learn how to make a rifle stock? pay me 5000.00 and you can come to our shop and see for yourself. I remember that post, though it was several years back..... 2008.... maybe 2009
I could say the same for anyone who actually wants to see how a rifle stock is made hehehehe but I'm not offering ;)

I appreciate the responses 45ACPKING, but do you see my point? It is pretty hard for me to find some old gent in the backwoods of BC. Even harder to know the quality of his work. If he is no secret then maybe someone would post his contact information so some of us dummies don't have to launch a BC wide investigation into who and where he is.

I am sure you do quality work, but again no help to me right now. Maybe I could use a new fishing rod down the road!:D

sorry guys, I don't post much in precision rifle but keeping up on the happenings and technology in the composite rifle stock game is a hobby of mine in itself.
I deleted a bunch of what I originally posted in this thread because sometimes.... we type #### before we really think about what we are typing and how it will be perceived..... and I'm trying not to be that guy hehehe

I do plan on getting back to doing nothing but rifle stocks but while I am a craftsman with needed talents, I suck at running the day to day of a business so I quit trying LOL
I'm semi retired so it is what it is.
if that changes, i'll let folks know. lots...... a few hundred cgn'ers have stocks I've made, the only complaints I got was how long it took to get them out the door. :(
Mcmillan has at least 2 dozen employees..... manners, maybe a few less..... I was doing it pretty much by myself, which for production work, is impossible to do.
If I come across the names of the stockmakers I'll post them to see if they ring a bell with anyone. I would think jerry at mystic precision would know who I'm talking about.....

This is the massage I got today from McMillan I guess the bad news is yet to come.. (Hi Scott your stock is in the shipping department waiting to be inspected. I imagine that we should be ready to ship to you in about a day or so)

I would gladly pay for a Canadian rock solid stock, in say a sako hunter pattern, that can take 300 mag recoil and doesn't weigh more than 25 oz. Then of course I also want said canadian company to offer a no bs warranty forever and I want them to be around in 20 years if it breaks. There is nothing like this in Canada and I doubt there ever will be which is why I will continue to buy mcmillan stocks.

I'm making a thumbhole hunter right now for my jeep mechanic for a 300 win mag sako a5. The only thing stopping me from diving right back into opening the doors for full on rifle stock production is staff..... I just can't find people who want to work with these materials and I need someone reliable to deal with the public. until then, I can't see it happening.

I'm actually really surprised that there aren't a few shops doing this in Canada to fill the niche markets.

I have a couple Mcmillan stocks and also have two Wildcat Vartac stocks. I like the Vartac stocks every bit as much as my Mcmillans. The Vartac stocks track amazing and it's sure nice to be able to order one up and have it in less than a month.

Just get Prophet River to export it. The fee is $50 per gun part. I rather pay the $50 then have US Customs or US Homeland Security seize it. Then you get but on a list you don't want to be on.

Can you post some pics of your vartac stocks. Full side view and front/rear views? It would be great if you can.

Thanks.

Hi Big Jon, hopefully this link will work. If it doesn't then send me a pm with your email and I will send some pics your way. Rifle barrel is .75 inches at muzzle for reference.
