For those of you using these rings, how viewable is the bubble level? Do you have to come off the rifle? I currently have a separate ring level and its helpful, but sucks lifting your head.

I had a set of 34mm low or medium, and honestly, the level was more of a novelty......
Actually, it was more useful when mounting the scope to keep everything level. Once the scope was mounted, you couldn't see it from behind the scope, you would have to move your head to the left and look at it on an angle.

Perhaps in the taller versions, you can see it better?

Depends on the height of the base. My mdt ess with the 20 moa base the level is super easy. My other rig with no base the level is much tougher to see. I like the rings though and will keep using them.

I bought a set of the Elites, in medium. I like them. I can not see the level from the shooting position, it did help in mounting. My base is a 0 MOA base.

Concur. It's a bit of a novelty especially for low/medium rings. I suspect part of the rationale MDT's latest instructions are to mount the ring with the level at the front (vice rear) is to reduce the angle and/or make it more visible with the left eye.

In reality, unless you don't have a solid rail base and the turret center bulb isn't close to the ring, the view is pretty obstructed. Meaning, you'd have the ring in the furthest forward position on the tube and just a base (vice a rail) and you have a chance at seeing it easily. If you decide to put the rings in reverse (to MDT's instructions) with the level at the rear ring (more typical), the angle is actually greater and the ocular or magnification ring will probably block the view as well.

Also, it's a pretty small bubble level.

I see that now after reading the instructions again. However then you are just looking at it from the side anyway, not exactly accurate. If I remove mine for some strange reason, I will swap them front to back.

I have a pair of high 34mm elite rings. I can move my head down and just barely see the level under the rear of the scope. If it were medium or low, I wouldn't be able to see it.

I still buy MDT rings, but I don't get the elite ones anymore.

I'm happy with my medium ones, this was the first time when I mounted a scope that I did not have to tweak it a second time. Six screws per ring also seems robust. I had my rifle in a Tipton vice, levelled the rifle via ring bubble, and did the flashlight/plumb bob trick, worked great.
