I really enjoy the show, binged season 8 in 1 sitting. I would love to see more cooking though but that's just a personal thing.
i think Rinella does a pretty good job of balancing of all around hunting, without needing to plug for the sponsors every five minutes. kudos to him
it pushed me away from watching those yahoos all together, it wasn’t till i saw meateaters, and that’s about two three years after last time i saw canada in the wild or sum such, that i got back to watching other people hunt
Squirrel hunting is awesome! Great way to get a beginner hooked. Way less boring than deer hunting. I like that he is bringing new hunters out again, good to see they are encouraging women to hunt as well. We all should be introducing 1 person to hunting, either with a bow or a gun, hunting is hunting.
Love Meateater. half way through season 8. Also check out their podcast, can't get enough of it.
I took my daughter to the range, then pheasant hunting ( game farm) this year was waterfowl ( goose hunt ) she is a hunter now. She loved the goose hunt, got compliments on her shooting from the other 5 guysI wish we had squirrels to hunt in these parts! It would make getting the kids out so much easier, deer hunting in the coastal mountains is far from the ideal introduction for the wee ones. I'm getting into waterfowl this year, that feels a bit more approachable as long as the kids can stay warm enough...
My only real issue with the show is the constant emphasis on bowhunting, and the weird obsession with squirrel hunting.
I foresee a time when bow hunting is used a serious wedge against the hunting community. And squirrel hunting, really? I mean, I'm sure they're fun and all that, but they talk about them an awful lot.
My only complaint about the podcast is that it kinda ruins the show. I already know what's going to happen in every episode because their hunts get discussed on the podcast months before the show drops. That said I'll take 2 hours of podcast every week over a dozen 22 minute episodes once a year, so I'm still going to keep listening in each week.

The affiliated podcasts usually cover the surrounding events rather than the actual hunt, they usually give colour if you will to the episodes rather than acting as spoilers. They also come out like a year or more ahead of time. So if they're ruining episodes you either have a mind like a steel trap of you're exagerating the overlap.
"Boring game and not worth it IMO." Think I found the wedge
I just don't like the fact he's got my friends obsessed with hunting squirrels now, and to be honest I find zero fun in this. The 65 acres I have available is filled with them and they are welcome to take as many as they want but you literally sit there and 10 squirrels will run by you in the span of 20 mins, and the amount of meat off them is so small. It's just not a challenge and I can't find worth in the amount I get off them so ya kinda pissed he's got my friends obsessed with it but hey to each their own. I also don't like shooting up into the tree's so much considering their is inhabited areas all around the land we use, who knows where that 22lr will come down. Boring game and not worth it IMO.
Are they red squirrels?
