Meateater

I like that this show doesn't sell out. ...I mean he is obviously sponsored by Vortex, but they are never promoting a specific product / manufacturer...and don't have any "this program was brought to you by..."

What you don't like hearing Jim Shockey tell you about what he trusts his life on or couldn't do without for 55 minutes of his hour long shows? Another cool thingis that after his kills he isn't hooting and hollering like crazy man, a refreshing change and will maybe show us in a normal light.. Liked the grouse episodes, first time I've ever seen non wing shooting grouse hunting on tv.

Vortex Optics, First Lite apperal (Callahan works for them). As of recent he's also sponsored by Federal Premium ammo and ........... Savage rifles.

Hey, Every production needs sponsors.

But yes, it's awesome that none of the stuff gets pushed on the viewers. That's the sponsorship agreement he signed...product shots only. Focus on the hunt, not the marketing.

Sponsors would be smart to realize that's a better approach IMO.

Not too vicariously though...Stevie's got trichinosis from eating bear...

Past tense. He "had" trich. He was treated for it and can go about living his life just as he has been.

This isn't to say that people should follow suit. Obviously one wants to avoid going through it. But it isn't the end of the world if it happens.

By the way, anyone who watches the one about different ways of cooking outside (where he focuses on cooking trout 3 different ways - but also shows excerpts from other adventures) - I can say that Hank Shaw's Sardinian Hare Stew is as good as Steve says it is. I discovered Hank's recipe a few years ago and it has been a favourite ever since. Seeing him on the show cooking it up for Steve was pretty cool.

Steve makes a good point in that show, about how someone can take an animal that most people wouldn't even think about eating, and turn it into a truly gourmet meal. This is 100% true, in my experience.

As hunters, we should strive to make the absolutely best meals with the wild meat. It isn't difficult - just follow a good recipe.

Lot of the local chefs here in St. John's are going gourmet with wild game , specifically Mallard Cottage. The episode in season 5 where steve showed a few recipes I really liked, I'd like a few more episodes like that one.

After watching the dove episode I want to wallop the pigeons that live near my neighbour's house to make those bacon wrapped jalapeno and pigeon poppers.

Great show with some great recipes. Binge watched them on Netflix and found the earlier seasons online.

Yup,

They're all available on VHX, I've purchased every episode so far.

I don't mind supporting a show like this by paying for the series, but it's also great to see it on Netflix. There will be way more exposure for it that way.

Been a long time fan of Steve, we have WildTV on our cable package and I honestly can't stand 100% of the hunting shows on there, just pure crap. But Steve has an amazing outlook on the whole experience and whenever I am watching an episode I think, "this would be a cool guy to go hunting with and maybe swap some stories". The other shows I couldn't stand spending 5 mins with the host. Steve has real respect for the animals and land he is hunting on.
