Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors -Ontario

Hi All, going to get my PAL in couple weeks. According to what the CFO told me. Anywhere around north GTA area I can shoot?

use this to find areas to shoot just check local bylaws. https://www.ontario.ca/page/crown-land-use-policy-atlas. There are one or two good spots near Barrie area. Some may or may not require you to walk 30+ minutes after a 1.5 hr drive. Better spots with less people are at least 2 to 2.5 hrs away.

Hey guys I'm new to cgn, and have just acquired my PAL. Im in the niagara region and looking for some mentorship/potential range buddies (I'm not sure if this is the appropriate thread, if it is not I apologize). I have yet to purchase my first firearm, though i do have some idea of what i am looking for.

Looking to by used Vortex optics. LPVO + Red dot side mount options for Crusader Arms Rifle. Quick tips on how to use this site?

Heya folks, I am a newbie located in the GTA - have my PAL and hunting license(& firearms). Would be interested in connecting with folks from around here - for mentorship and/or being buddies. Willing to drive for a couple of hours.
PS: If anyone knows any good crown land spots for target shooting, would really appreciate that as well!

Want to jump on this thread as well to see any crown land areas as well!

The ihunter app is supposed to be good for locating crown land. I'm just getting into looking for crown land so I can't speak from first-hand experience, yet.

I'm in Ottawa so I'm sure it won't be too hard to find something relatively close, and if anyone is willing to share their spot or wants to do some exploring together feel free to shoot me a message. I want to ring some steel at some long distances if possible. I'm looking to camp and fish too, so if you're kitted out for that, that's even better.

Same. Let me know how you get on

Just received my PAL last week. Look forward to learning from fellow members about hunting. Still need to take the course first.

You should purchase a 22 if you don't have one and join a shooting club if you haven't already.
You should practice at home without ammo, to shoulder the gun and focus your dominant eye only on the front sight,
with the other eye practice focusing on the target or object,
it will take time but your eyes will adjust and you will be more accurate at the range or possible this fall when you go hunting.
Remember practice at home and go to the range for results, if not you will miss the target and see no growth.
Have fun and be safe!

Why do you suggest a 22? I'm new to this and I understand the 22 has less recoil and dirt cheap ammo but friends have told me that a shotgun is much more versatile especially when it comes to huntimg and of course shooting clay. Very interested in your answer as I'm looking to buy my first firearm and tbh I cant pick between a shotgun and milsur rifle based on how intriguing they are.

If you plan to hunt with a shot gun, then yes you should shoot trap and or skeet. This will get you into shooting a moving target. But you should have a rifle in your collection to practice distance shots shooting targets that will open the door down the road for large animals. If you plan to start hunting small animals and you are up for the challenge to select the option to shoot still shots or moving shots a combination gun is a good challenge. I have a Savage 24 that is a dubble barrel in 22 and 20 gauge, not everyone likes a combination gun but it is great for bird hunting when you learn to see and shoot before the bird takes flight and or you can shoot the bird in flight. Every hunter should have a shot gun and a rifle, start with a 12 gauge with interchangeable chokes in semi auto, pump or dubble barrel, and a 22 semi auto suggest Ruger 10/22 to be able to shoot properly within the target at 25 to 50 yards, that will lead you to become the hunter and shooter you were ment to be, have fun be safe.
