Meeting place for Newbies and Mentors - Sask.

What if you don't pass? you take it all over again. But remember the nonrestricted is for kids 12 and older, and the hunter ed is for kids and older also. Just pay attention and keep thinking am I smarter than a fifth grader.

This is where some people get confused.

There is a seperate book for the PAL, and RPAL, but if you do the Sask hunter ed course the book for it is included in the fee and the first half of the book is what you need for your PAL so no other book is required. The hunter ed test also asks many questions on firearms also.

CORRECT!!!!!!! THey are 2 different tests, the Rpal is so simple once the PAL is passed. THe book is included in the fee but when the course is over they have started keeping the books. There was a guy at the show signing up people for the test, because of hunting though I am not sure when it will be held. I am going back tomorrow to deal on a gun so I will ask for you.

THe book is included in the fee but when the course is over they have started keeping the books.

I hope that the book they have started keeping is the Canadian Firearm Safety book and not the Sask hunter ed book. The Hunter ed book is the students book to keep and part of the $50 free set by S.A.F.E.

just a note: some instructors do charge a little more but that is strickly for the testing related to the PAL that is not included in the Hunter ed course.

i think i read that the course in saskatoon with Hunter Safety and PAL is $65.

I would like to keep the hunter safety book, so hopefully we get to.

If i cant make it Drewz, if you could grab some info and a contact number from the sign up guy that would be awesome :)

I went to the White City show yesterday. I thought it'd be bigger. I was there maybe 1.5 hrs total. Sorry to have missed you Drewz.

It was a typical gun show. The only thing that wasn't overpriced was the pie. Mmmmm... :)

I did get to visit with Doug Rayner a little though.

If I had known there were empty tables I would have gotten one and set up a bunch of RCMP stuff and a few guns for the heck of it. It was nice to handle the new mossberg tactical, SR2, and the 597VTR side by side. Too bad we didnt meet up indeed. We have a big show in January though. MAy grab a table there as I am in collecting mode.

I ended staying about 1.5 hours too. The environment was very friendly. I ended up chatting with a few guys and dealers. In all a good morning.

My sister ended up tagging along with me and she was quite impressed by the firearms and the helpful people.... I'll probably have to buy her a 10/22 with a thumb-hole stock now... she liked that little gun!

I'm new to the firearms scene, so for me I was happy to be able to look over and handle the firearms I had only really seen online here and elsewhere. Also was it just me or was there not a single SKS at the show? I was hoping to have the chance to look one over (unless it was dressed up and I simply missed it).

I'm not up that much on the pricing, but it's probably just as well my PAL is still in the mail or I would of spent a pretty penny (I really liked those falling block .22 that one fella had... something to look into in the future).

There were only 2 sks's at the show and they were over priced but pristine. 300 for a russian is a bit higher than what you buy them for here or even at TNT. TNT has a few sks's and a cz858 I think still. I have an SKS'D and may pick up another or another regular SKS. Nice inexpensive shooters, they are not cheap just well priced. Feel free to ask any questions you have I lke helping out other local guys. I am thinkin hard about a NEF now, too bad they don't swap barrels like the T/C .

What is your opinions of either gun?

I would like to get either one of these guns, or a ruger sr-22, and the price on the mossberg is sure attractive, but I worry a little about the quality difference in the set up, as well as the action itself between all three of these guns.

Any of you guys know where any decent used gun shops are?
I want to find a nice .270 and havent had many replies to my EE ad. I am ocnsidering one, but want to see what else is out there,

Well I dont know about what is involved in doing the online course, I do know that you will be sent to an instructor for final testing and pay the $20 test fee. Most if not all instructors can and will administer the PAL test for you some do it free some have a small charge. Most everything you need to know for the PAL although seperate is also part of the Hunter ed course and also in there testing. You would do the PAL test as a challange.

For a used gun check with Phil in PA at Arnies guns he has a large previous owned section
or with Kerry at Saskatoon Gunsmith Shoppe those are a couple of the top of my head
