I think it looks pretty cool. And the whole serpent thing is just cosmetic, so what? There are people on this forum who have done more needless cosmetic changes to thier guns than that serpent.

Americans, they want Texas back ;)

Actually, HK found out that the cost of labor was cheaper in Mexico and will be moving their plant from the US down south. Something about "Free Trade". So what you are looking at is the North American versions of the G36.
Sadly, they are just avaliable to Military or Law Enforcement. Future plans are to make a single shot, manually loading and cycling version for the Canadian market.

CK gun room in london just got in a HK rifle that I am pretty sure is a G36 in .223 with a 5 shot clip and I was told that it was unrestricted??? $2300-2400 I believe

Thank you for the correction, it has a 5 cartridge capacity magazine.

was going to post a picture of it as it is the civilian version but I can not find a site that has a picture and I can't upload from my files. Very cool looking gun though and actually quite different from the military version.

you are correct, it looked just like the one in the link you posted, but I also found simlilar pictures when I googled G36. Is the SL8 the civilian version of the G36? The whole thing reminded me of lego with the way it comes apart and other things can be added to it. The one in the shop is only missing the scope and scope rings, other than that it is exactly the same.

Interesting part for me is that it is non restricted. Can you imagine pulling that out of the gun case the next time out hunting.

The SL8 is a .223 caliber non-restricted rifle. They are avaliable in Canada usually for over $2000 though. Not really a G36, but you can buy some furniture to make it look like one.

I'd consider one if it was available to foreign civilians in a non-restricted flavor, in direct competition with a Tavor, depending on availability of mags and price (likely HK put a clause in the contract that clearly states NO civi sales anyway). From looking at the pic, there's a round hole forward of the carry handle, does this this have optics AND backup irons sitting on top of the carry handle ???

Mexico is probably like many other countries in the world that don't believe in copyrights or anything like them. Do you think Colt is getting money from China for their AR15 copies?

Exactly. Where would HK sue?

Sue in Mexico and they lose since the Mexican government could just pass legislation to legalise the breach of copyright.

Sue in the US/Germany? No court in the world will enforce a judgement against a foreign GOVERNMENT.

So HK is SOL

Maybe, but I think they would be better than say CHINA, which seems thesedays to have NO original idea in it's head.

this DOES look like a rifle worth picking up :)

I bet it's in .223?
