MFS vs Serbian performance

Did some simple tests this afternoon. Zeroed my Rem 700 (for tomorrow's shoot at Borden) and M14 at 100 yrds. 700 I used Serbian 145grn fmj boat tail in brass cartridge. M14 using MSF 145 grn fmj steel cartridge.

Then tested the drop at 300 yards. 24 inch drop with the 700 firing Serbian (2 mil dots, 19 MOA clicks, at 14x). Also 24 inch drop M14 firing MFS. Both the same.

Things changed at 500. First zeroed at 300 for the Rem700, kept the M14 zeroed at 100 (for CQB). Drop at 500 was also 24 inches. Thus total 48 inch from 100m. M14 was more, more than 50 inches (off the target). At 6x max for the scope, I was past the 4th mil dot onto the verticle bar before I got near the centre.

So there appears to be better performance with the Serbian.

Need more testing to get this more precise.

500 is a long way for a 145 grain bullet. Dropping 48" isn't unusual at 500. Remington factory 150 grain ammo does about the same when sighted in at 200. Pretty much drops like a brick past 300.
The magnification of the scope has nothing to do with it though.

Using my Remington 700 shooting serbian 145gr at 800 yards at Mons yesterday. Was hitting the target using 16x power, got 4s, 5s, even got a V!! MOA was 21.

No, PPU ammo, it's made in Serbia. Gobles in London gets it in.

I was. I was also comparing the different ammo fired from two different rifles. MFS in the M14 and the PPU in the Rem700. At 300 the performance is indistinguishable.

But I also tested both ammo, and used both ammo, with the Rem 700. I used the MSF at the 200 yrds, then switched to the PPU after that as I didn't have enough PPU for the shoot. The MSF wasn't going to do the job after 300. That I knew.

Fact is, the PPU 145gr FMG BT ammo works quite fine up to 800.

MFS I though waz supposed to be the gold standard when dealing with ammo???

Don't know if I would ever use in in a bolt action rifle though. I sugest that you take some time and clean the 700 bolt, nicley. As the crappy red stuff that I know is laquer based red paint is probaly going to stick nicely to your bolt face for some time to come. That is, if you dont clean it off with a good solvent.

I don't intend to use the MFS in the 700 any more. That said, I have used MFS in my AIA M10B No4.

The plan is to start reloading in the winter, which is what I will then fire out of the 700, then adjust my MOA chart accordingly.

Did you ever hear the freze dont bring a knife to a gun fight well I would say never bring commy block surplus to a sniper shoot.Reload or match grade ammo save the serbian ammo for cqb.Use the chart and MOA come ups and it wil get there see in the fall shoot .

Cheap factory ammo is exactly that. You'd do better shooting over your left shoulder with a mirror in a gale wind.
