Middle of the road 6.5

Well it took 5 years but here it is. I took everyone’s advice and went 6.5x55 and am now patiently awaiting its twin in 338-06 to complete the the pair of rifles that will render the remaining contents of my safe completely redundant (never heard that one before).

Barrel is a 1:8 benchmark blank that was custom contoured by a talented fellow to match the factory contour until it passes the forend, then taper to about 0.615 at 23” for a perfect balance. 6lbs 9oz as pictured.

Range report to follow, as a friend of mine that is much more patient and talented than me on the hand loading bench is going to wring it out for me. IMG_3345.jpeg

I have owned a truck load of rifles in different 6.5 cartridges from the 6.5x54MS ( Which I am now again shooting)to the 6.5WSM and have worked with a few bigger than that, the 6.5STW being one.
Many are so close together it comes down to a personal preference, but the 6.5x55 is never a bad choice!🙂.
The rifle looks super BTW!

Very nice! ..... The trouble with owning a nice custom gun is that it really does make the rest redundant. I've been selling down (for the same reason) for a couple years now with a two or three to go.

Nice looking rifle. Also looking forward to the range results.
I will always keep my Swede. Kills everything I point it at. Even those that others say it isn’t big enough for.

Nice looking rifle Slimbo. I'm looking forward to range results. Who contoured the barrel for you and what contour did you start with?
Bill leeper, and it started as a sendero contour I think.

If you search “will Henry’s workshop” on YouTube he will show you how he done it on his channel.
