migration of wild pigs from United States?

Well The great lakes are hugh and don't freeze. I don't see them swimming across those lakes. Erie is shallow, so maybe that helps. The rivers between those lakes have major current, I don't see pigs swimming across those rivers. I know Lake St. clair freezes in the winter, but I believe a channel is open year round due to the currents. So I don't think there will be a big invasion of wild boars unless they are shipped here.

have a look at some of those pictures ...

they re able to swim in Mediterranean sea but your lakes maybe are different ....

There was a bunch of escapee wild boars in an area about 8 or 10 miles west of Yellow Grass, Sk a few yrs ago. They had a marshy area to live in , and one winter several lived in a large pile of round bales that they burrowed into.I know of only one that a couple friends of mine shot, and in the last couple yrs no one has heard or seen any.We figure that the high population of coyotes and the odd cougar have taken a toll on them.

This does not apply to all species as the starling is an invasive species yet there's a season protecting them here in Quebec.

in Ontario we are free to shoot starlings and sparrows(other pest birds too) with a small game license and I do just that as much as I can kind of stupid to protect a invasive pest that kills native birds

Have never hunted for them but did shovel an incredible amount of pig manure as a kid (uncle's 400 pig operation). They are very smart and adaptable. The operation started with piglets and when we went to pick them up at the breeders the boars scared the living ch!t out of me. Nothing to be trifled with and these hybrids are big and nasty. I love pork but when watching the shows about hunting them in Florida etc they live caught them and butchered them later. Was this to finish the meat properly?

I think the reason they dont show the 'final act' on the show is to to appease the anti's, and still get to make their show. As for butchering pigs, fact is pork is a completely different meat to deer, and will spoil very quickly if left to hang for to long. Back home there are some experienced pig hunters that swear by the assumption leaving a freshly killed pig in the light of a full moon can spoil the meat. Fact or fiction? its one of those things ive never been prepared to put into practice. Either way, best bet with with pork is to treat it like chicken.

no they have to by law have them checked over before they can donate or sell the meat to do this they have to be seen live everyday for a certain time period before they get approved

Well it is a problem in alberta there are even "outfitters" for wild boar hunts by Lloyd and mayerthorpe. There was just a news artical http:// www .calgarysun.com/2013/03/26/albertas-wild-boar-invasion-widening-says-top-exterminator. http://www .calgarysun.com/2013/03/23/alberta-bringing-in-bounty-to-deal-with-brewing-wild-boar-woes it's only a matter of time. There animals they will adapt. There also hearty and tough as nails. I think it will be no time before there is a sizable pop in all of Canada

It's funny how they are all gung hoe on exterminating feral pigs. However everyone freaks out when somebody shoots a feral horse. Both are feral, certainly not native. Both displace native animals and compete with native animals for food. Both are a scourge in the wild. Yet for some reason people freak out about shooting the feral horses that are rampant on the eastern slopes.
