Buy your surplus ammo generously enough to have some for tomorrow.

Thanks for all the advice. Didn't realize that military surplus ammo could be an issue to obtain later. It seems to always be in stock whenever I go to get some, so I should just start stockpiling them now.
Ammo stores for a very long time. Start stocking for shortages (slowly). Buy a case, and when you get to half case left, buy another, but put it away. Every time you blow through half a case, buy a new full one, artificially cheating yourself out of 50% of your ammo, and it'll appear to cost twice as much, but it'll build up your stock over time. Imagine if all these SKS variants ran dry someday...
How long will ammo store for?
Think of the .303 brit. ammo as a perfect example. How many countries made it, and how many millions if not billions of rounds were around after the war and well into the 60's and 70's? Go to a gun show now, and if you find any, check out the cost. 'Nuff said?
