Milsurp and other groups....payment for items

EMT is in my opinion the easiest way to make a financial transaction over the EE. If you have any questions on the security of it, raise them with your bank over the phone like I did and they will put your mind at ease.

On larger priced items, other than the additional time it's a moot point.
On parts and smaller stuff money orders are a PITA. My bank charges 7.00 for a money order; tack that onto a 20 $ item and it's reached a foolishness level.
But it's a generational thing I suppose. My kids roll their eyes at me when I flame them on texting so it's like ' The pot calling the kettle Black'

Why do some guys cut off about 40% of their customers when selling Milsurps (and other products) by saying EMT ONLY.....and will not even consider other instruments of commerce. Are sales that good or am I missing something here.
Many of us old timers do not use, nor feel comfortable using on line banking and the internet to send money. (FRAUD ALERT) is bad enough but at least you don't have a direct pipeline into your bank account. I realize (FRAUD ALERT) is anti gun and is part of Eslime, but at least you can do it discretely.
Almost as bad as the number of people that crap out on you on a deal. They chisel you down on a deal and when you agree on a price you never hear from them again. This is happening more and more here with lots of the "big sellers and buyers".
Is it just me or ??????
If this is out of place here just zap it, but it seems to be worse on the Milsurps EE.
The old curmudgeon hisself..... :)##

You had me on everything but (FRAUD ALERT). You dont feel comfortable with EMT by the big banks, but trust (FRAUD ALERT)????? I suggest you do a bit of research and see how un-safe (FRAUD ALERT) really is.

When selling, I prefer EMT for speed and convenience for both parties but will accept just about anything so long as I get it in time and it clears my bank account in a reasonable fashion. As for buying, I refuse to do money orders since I think it's a scam to pay $6 - $9 in service fees to get one! As for banks and EMT, I find that credit unions are the ones stuck in the 1970s. EMTs are win-win: they can't get lost (even if you send it to the wrong address, the receiver knows with an hour and the seller can correct immediately. And both parties get a receipt!

(FRAUD ALERT)? Sure, so long as you're willing to add 5% to the selling price!

CP MOs are $4.50 and you gotta mail it anyways... That being said it sucks that my bank doesnt do EMT. Ive had impatient buyer walk away just cause they couldnt pay for it fast enough. Owell, someone else always gets the item :)

I suppose I would be marked off as an "old guy", but I love EMT for both buy and sell. PAY(through the nose)PAL would be my very last choice.

I was hesitant to try EMT at first, a few years back. But I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. The only information the seller discloses is his email address. And that is often exchanged even if a MO is being sent instead of EMT. It's painless, it's fast, it's easy, it's reliable, and it's safe.

I'll still send/take a MO if the other guy is not set up for EMT. But EMT really is king.

I take what I think are appropriate precautions for each form of payment, and if that's o.k. with a buyer, I'll accept cheques, money order, or sending a friend over with the cash. I prefer to pay by cheque or money order so there is a paper trail (before I started my painting business I was a computer network tech and I have worked in security with banks amongst my clients, so I know how secure electronic funds transfer isn't.) There is always some risk, and I understand and accept that. If I can't accept it, I don't do the deal.

So far, I haven't seen or heard of anything in the world that I want so much I would accept the risk of dealing through (FRAUD ALERT) to buy it.

EMT is fast.
I see an item I want, and I can pay for it within moments of receiving a reply from a seller.
It allows me to lay instant claim to the item hopefully before anyone else.
I don't know why anyone would want to wait a week for a cheque in the mail, wait another 5 business days for it to clear and then find out it made of rubber.

Isn't the question: "Why do you cut yourself off from an increasing number of deals by refusing to use EMT?

I don't image that you're a lot older than I am, but I've been using EMT for as long as it's been available. You're on the Interweb for heaven's sake, it's not a big stretch to go to EMT. It's not "safe"? I've never experienced, nor even heard of an issue in which EMT was the cuplrit.

I accept other payment, but much prefer EMT, but on the other hand, when I'm the buyer, I detest when a seller insists on a cheque or Money Order. Here's why: Money Orders cost me, and require a trip to the Post Office, then there's the wait while it's in the mail system; and cheques require the mail wait, but then the old feller will insist on waiting for it "to clear" (anywhere from a week to two weeks in one instance). These same old "Luddites" will then want to send it by Greyhound because they don't trust Canada Post, but now I'm rambling......

I'm 55 and never heard of EMT before being here. I consider myself in the group with Wheaty and Tiriaq although I know Wheaty's older than I am. I simply had to go to EMT because of the way this place does business. It's just how it works. Just a few years ago, I would never have done bank business on line either.

I'm just now switching over to a mainstream bank after years at a credit union. The CU did not offer EMT and I therefore couldn't send one, though anyone can accept one for a fee using the interac website.

To be honest, the EMT is so convenient, it has over the last month become my "go to" instrument for sending money.

For some of us, money orders are used to keep purchases/buys off the home radar. That said, I prefer money orders.

For me I like to use money orders or bank payments, old school thinking I guess, I'm an old guy also and not confident of EMT, the younger generation does have all the gadjets for electronic emails and so on but a deal is a deal, if you do not live up to your commitments then you are a snake, unless of course your reason is acceptable by the seller.Full disclosure goes a long way.

I pay my bills and anyone here that sold me anything gets paid quick as can be, some fellows ship really fast and some ahead of payment--thankyou for that men as you know who you are.

I share Joe N's concerns about giving out address'es as you do not know who reads these comments, just ship elsewhere if possible.

Many times I pass right on by with adds that simply state EMT only, some if I really like the item it is quick to send a PM and state to the buyer that you either are not set up for EMT or credit union not compatible, and pose the question about other forms of payment.

It is the same at gun shows, lots of lost sales due to no debit cards or visa/mastercard machines--cash talks at gun shows.

Anyway it is the sellers goods so he has the right to determine payment form, and if he does not accept anything but EMT thems the brakes.

Nice to see someone else uses :"Them's the brakes" Damned, thought I was the only one !!! :)##

I've also had a lot of people back out of deals after chiseling you down in price and then you never hear from them again. Must just be a sign of the times. At one time a man's word and a handshake was his bond. I remember my grandfather buying an apartment building with the deal written up on the back of a cigarette package while sitting in a cafe in Victoria. Mind you, I think the shin plaster was still legal currency then :)##
How times have changed. However, the Good ole days......weren't so good in actuality, but I'd sure hate to be a kid today.
ramblings of the old curmudgeon...

Well stated, I prefer Money orders and I state that up front. I have the product you want as the seller, I have the option for payment. As a purchaser I ignore ads that say EMT only, my choice. OP, stop whining.

I'm with wheaty on this one, I'm in my 40's and I wouldn't put info over the waves if I can help it. You can have your emt, (FRAUD ALERT) and the like, I deal with moneyorders cos its traceable with receipt in hand, no fuss no muss. If you find it too cumbersome or too slow, well, I'll just give my money to someone else. Easy, peasey, japanesey. Cheers.
