Milsurp Investment

SeamusMac: If you set out to find an example of one particular type that's not in great abundance you will often end up paying well above the true market value meaning it may take a few years before you can even get your money back. Collectors do this all the time to fill holes or get something that really appeals to them. It's also possible to make mistakes due to incomplete info and pay more than an item is worth- for example, does a Lee Enfield have original, matching parts or "force-matched" arsenal replaced parts or "collector" replaced parts? Make a mistake and your rifle may be instantly worth much less than you payed for it. You need to look for something that is fairly abundant and doesn't need years of study to understand what to look for. I'd suggest buying two Mosin 91/30 refurbs at around $$300-350 each. Look for all matching (force matched) and virtually unissued condition with perfect bores. Keep one in unused condition and shoot the other. These are such a bargain it's hard to imagine them not slowly climbing in value.

Thanks milsurpo, good post. IIRC Mosins have already increased in value beyond inflation over the past decade and I can't see any reason that they wouldn't continue to do so as retailer supplies dry up. He's only looking for one rifle, preferably valued at $600 or more, but I'll certainly add the 91/30 to the list!

I'm going to add Berthier rifles to the list as well. I only see one example for sale on CGN currently but its within the budget range and I know that ammo is available locally. The Swiss G11 should be on there too I reckon.

drm3m, thanks for the post - beautiful JC you've got there. I'll be sure to get in-touch if he leans in that direction.

I will add, at this point in time the best way to make money on milsurps is to buy when they are below market value no matter the type.

For example, last year one of my two firearms purchases was a FN-49 with 600rds of ammo for 600$. The rifle itself was worth more than 1000$ and the ammo came free. Just the other day someone on here was selling two Berthier Carbines for less than market value, and were snapped up quickly (I wish I had seen those sooner).

Another common ammo milsurp for that price range is a M1917 in 30-06. They come up time to time in the 800-1500$ range.

Wait 2-3 months when 90% of the milsurps in private hands are placed on the EE, then wait another 1-2 months when they are all selling for less than 50% of original price.

Get a SKS, 1000 rounds (buy that now) and a PVC tube with end caps and glue, you are going to need it

We are heading into the Great Depression Gen2 which will take at least a decade to recover from at best.

Now my personal feeling is we will never recover and be left with complete economic collapse of central banking leading to global universal currency (available only via chip implant) and will be ruled by the NWO enforced by a global armed military. That is exactly what they are talking about when the media says ‘the new normal’ we just can’t imagine it yet.

This is my nightmare for years.

I think I saw 3 different Krags go up on the E&E just this week...

Go have another Pizza Pop World Scholar! Lol

Remember the old saying from Julius Caesar, "Money Talks, Bull Sh/t Walks!"

Only $1000 and looking to buy milsurps? Take that and go put it into Pembina stocks. Nice and cheap at the moment, decent dividend.

He’s only looking to buy one milsurp with his ~$1000. I’m sure he has other investments, he’s not looking to turn a 50% profit over the next two years, just wants something interesting and useable that’ll keep pace with inflation. Most milsurps seem to do that reasonably well.

If purely for investment purposes, the K11 is likely to appreciate a lot.

Thanks! I think that’s on the list but I’ll make sure to add it if not.

Make a wtb post about a kar98 uncaptured or any milsurp I suppose. Sometimes somebody will have an old gun sitting around that they’ve lost interest in. If they stumble on a person actively trying to acquire one sometimes with will part at an affordable price. If they’ve sat on it for a while they’d be making money regardless which is the main driver.

Mosin Nagant PU sniper would be an awesome choice. The prices on these are creeping up, so I think it would be a great investment. (7.62x54R ammo is still readily available)

.
Surprisingly, "jungle carbine" No. 5 Enfields seem to be an interesting-priced item to purchase right now... :yingyang:

I’ve noticed that! We’ve been communicating via text trying to get him something but weren’t quick enough on the draw for the few that have been available. Still plenty of fish in the see though!
