mini 30 accuracy

The rifle I have coming in is an older version. I note Rugerman waving a finger in my direction but I defend myself by saying "that is what I have heard" I cannot speak from personal experience until mine arrives. And I think I was fairly clear on that.

Sorry thin skinned and overly sensitive these days.

I thank both Rugerman and hiredgun for posting load data. I look forward to all the loads listed.

Sometimes when I am at the range shooting my Mini 30 a guy will come over and say something like, "Oh, is that one of those mini 30's? I heard they shoot minute of barn, waste of money, etc. You would be better off with an SKS and a crate or two of surplus. Probably shoot better, etc, etc.." After showing them a few decent groups they throw in some more "opinions" about their friend who had one and sold it and bought a rifle that would shoot. Even though the groups show you their info was incorrect. It is like they didn't see the truth right in front of them. So, sorry, had to mention it. Interestingly enough, I wasn't referring to you. LOL!

BTW: If I have learned anything in my time here it is: Posting on CGN and a thick skin go hand in hand!

Anyway, I look forward to hearing how your rifle shoots. Hope the loads and ideas here from everyone help you and ShowNoMercy to get the most out of your Minis. PM me if you have any serious issues and I will try and help. Cause having fun with your Mini and being happy with it is what it's all about!!

Cheers,
Rugerman

As for accuracy test I put 100 rounds at 100 yards through it before and after and with it on and sighted in the 10 shot groups I fired were more consistent and tighter.

The bipod I drilled it a sling eye screw and the bipod mounted tight to it going to put a rail in behind it. The fore en of the stock has a lot of meet to it to drill into

I love my Sparta. The ruger stock never really fit me well and this I one makes it comfortable and more suited to me. It a touch heavier yes but very solid and well made IMO

:agree:
They are a great product and look good, too!
Thanks for the update on your "shaft". Since there is so many problems getting an AccuStrut, MoRod, Harbar, maybe you should go into production?

As for making one I used solid aluminum round stock and I have a good friend who's a machinist. PM "theshaft" cause he may be making some to sell. He was a big help in making mine

That's kind of what I thought, thanks I think I'll try that. Do you have any pictures that show how the sleeve attaches to the barrel?

When we made it I machines it .002 of an inch bigger for the whole barrel and smaller for where u have to remove the front sight. Where it tapered bigger at the back I driller larger and notched it to fit over the gas plate. I used sleeve retainer to seal it and hold it tight. It was already a snug fit but this helps. I'm a mechanic and I use it for bushings and cylinder inserts on motors

Oh ok, you mean that Loctite sleeve retainer stuff? How would you get the barrel back off though? I guess just heat it up with a blow torch or something?

Pretty easy I left a small gap at the back to get a small pry tool in and ya if u warm it up even by shooting a bit it'll come apart. U don't new much if u keep it snug when machining it

Rugerman I can honestly say you were right.

My series 581 arrived yesterday, so this afternoon I was at the range. I was shooting privi partisan non corrosive boxer primed ammo thought the peep sight. I am the first to admit I can't shoot peeps worth a damn.

At 50 yards I was able to put 20 rounds into a 5 inch target. You can see the obvious groupings of 5 rounds at a time. I think with a holo sight and some reloading this is going to be perfect for it's intended choir. Bush beating as a dogger for dear. I don't think a scope. I want that fast acquisition of target

Another one joins the fold!! That is great and you're off to a good start. Awesome! If those were hunting rounds that buck wouldn't have known the difference! Not sure where you hunt but around here 30-75 yds is not an uncommon shot. Hunting ammo or reloads should make it shoot even better! Keep us up to date.

2 -2.5" group sounds about right.

I had a min-30 about 10 years ago, so I'm assuming I had an older one. With surplus ammo it was about 4" groupings. With factory about an inch less, and with reloads, the best groupings I ever got was just under 2". I did have a scope mounted on, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have a proper cheek weld on the rifle because of the scope mounted so high.
