Mini-master

tkv000, how is the quality of this gun since you have had the opportunity to shoot it? How is the little nub trigger? Any preference on handles?

The quality, fit and finnish is very good not excellent. The hammer for instance had a line from casting, and their was some machining marks in the hollow under the barrel. My rear sight also had to be pushed all the way to the right to hit POA. Target sights would be nice.

The larger rubber handles, while not great for pocket carry, make it much easier to handle, but are not as nice as the wood.

The trigger isn't bad, but the grip is strange, and takes some fiddling to find the right grip, and finger positioning.

Gloves are recommended for shooting it, as you will get the hot gases blowing out onto your hands as the cylinder and grip are positioned so close together it s hard to overcome this problem.

I think that line in the hammer is intentional.

The factory grips are the best out of all the grips, and I have them all, from the pearl, the oversize wood, the mini rubber (same one as comes on the pug), all of them.

Pocket carry is not an issue, as its not allowed except for a very lucky few, so I can't comment on that.

I shot it all day without gloves, but yeah you get a bit of powder black on your hands. No different from any other revolver and extended shooting periods really.

It always surprises people when you shoot something that tiny with .22 Magnum's, they don't expect it to make that much noise :)

Edit:

I see the line mlehtovaara is talking about, its very minimal IMO, and mine doesn't have machine marks in hollow under the barrel.

Sorry for the crappy cell-phone pictures

You can slightly see the casting "flashing" here, its very minimal, in fact it almost looks intentional, and a finish, and I'd almost bet it is. I can't feel it with a finger nail, I'd say the quality is on par or better than any of my S&W's or Ruger's, again, IMHO.

The line you see on the left side is just from me pulling the cylinder retaining pin out, its just dirty (Shame!)

Here's the best picture I can get with my camera phone, again, appologies.

I'm willing to bet that's not a casting mark, but rather, it looks like finished product, its perfectly straight, flows down from the hammer thumb bumps, I just think that's as intended. And it doesn't flow down the back, but I'm no machinist.

Judge for yourself:

Both mine shoot great BTW, no need to move the sights on either of the examples I've shot.

If your wondering about the Gap in the grips at the top, I have the screw to tight

I know that this thread is about the Mini Master but let's not forget the other gun that Kodiak brought up from NAA. The Earl.

Novelty or not I get a total blast out of shooting mine and it's been well over a year now. It never fails to put a smile on my face.

Accuracy? Once I got a feel for how best to hold it and pull the trigger I found that I can consistently get 2'ish inch groups at around 12 yards. The gun is certainly more accurate than I can hold and aim it.

Three folks that have shot mine said they would buy one if they came across one in the shop for the $400 that these cost after the dust settled.

Mind you having said this these are certainly a niche market gun. But like I say mine is staying around for as long as I'm able to shoot.

Besides, I can't very well break up a family, can I? :D

We were originally going to bring in the Earl for the first run. But a poll determined more demand for the Minimaster's, glad he eventually brought both in.

Fine looking family you got there.

Here's a shot with the oversized Rosewood grips. They are absolutely gorgeous, I'll try to take a good daytime picture tomorrow, they fit like a glove as well.

Thanks guys, very thorough. Good visuals too. Yes tkv000 the Earl is nice too with the cowboy style. Doc Rowlands out of New Brunswick had brought some in but has sold all of them now. He specializes in cowboy shooting guns.

Now that everyone is back from Shot Show, any updates if or when Wanstalls would be importing the mini-master or something from North American Arms?

I have an Earl too.

I ended up selling the one I bought from Kodiak because I figured it was just a novelty thing. But I had powerful seller's remorse before the transfer was even complete and I couldn't talk the buyer into selling it back to me, even for more money than what he paid me.

After some time, I lucked out and found a second gun on the EE.

Its tiny, and the faults this gun has are well described by the members above. But you just can't get a sense of how much fun it is. It is surprisingly accurate and feels oddly powerful shooting .22 wmr.

There are also a wide variety of grips for the gun, allowing you to change the look and fit of the grip.

I will never sell this one and would consider buying another if a break action could be brought in.

Well BabySeal you are one of the few lucky ones. There is less than 200 units in the whole country. Maybe some dealer in will bring them in again. Fingers crossed
