I'm still surprised it's still there. I was all over it when it came up on the EE. I'm also losing a sh!t load of money on it.

I would grab it, but still catching up on the last 2 years of crappy business.
It almost makes my MK12 mod1 museum quality with the PEQ2

Thanks! I really missed my Mod 1 upper when I sold it. This one is even closer to issue, so in the end I am pretty happy about it.
I also picked up a Colt 14.5 SOCOM barrel and DD RIS II FSP. Just need an upper for that.

I know, it's not the correct model, but it was too cheap to pass up and at least it's better than the VX-R Patrol I had on there before. Now I just have to figure out if I want to dump the 20" HBAR (which is a phenomenal shooter) for the correct barrel.

I asked a few guys on ARF which was more important, roll marks or profile and I was surprised by most of the responses. Although it would be ideal to have an actual M16A1 lower or an 80% A1 lower finished with the correct markings, having an A1 profile lower would stand out more than Colt markings....not that I have Colt markings on my KAC lower anyway.....

Anyway, I think I'll throw some parts onto this lower one of these days and see how it looks.

So, I finally got around to getting my Mk12 Mod 1 clone build out to see how it shoots. I knew the Colt HBAR that it was built around shot well when I had the barrel encased in Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) parts. I'd only shot it once and I recall getting a decent group but I didn't measure it and wish I had. The Mk12 Mod 1 clone had a Leupold 3.5-10x40mm FFP with Leupold's fine TMR reticle and I was shooting 75gr Hornady Steel Match, and I also tried out a few rounds of 77gr Federal Gold Medal Match SMKs.

My Mk12 Mod 1 clone build performed as well as I expected. I managed a .875" group at 100m, but I honestly think this rifle could do better with more magnification. At 100m, it was hard for me to see the target, even with the fine TMR reticle. That being said, it is supposed to be a clone build, and wouldn't be right with one of Leupold's higher power Mark 4s. Actually, the Mod 1 was more commonly seen with Leupold's 2.5-8x36mm Mark 4, not this one, but I think I'll just settle for close enough.

So, something that’s been sort of bugging me about my Mk12 clone was the barrel.

I’ve been using a 20” Colt HBAR for the longest time, and since it produced great groups, I didn’t want to jinx it by chopping it to the clone correct length. I suppose I could have just bought the clone correct barrel, but then I’d have a Colt HBAR that would need a home.

A buddy of mine gave me an Olympic Arms 20” HBAR about a year ago and it was sitting my A4 clone.

Colt HBAR on top, Olympic barrel on the bottom.

I decided to bring the Olympic barrel to the shop and have two inches chopped off. I then threw the Colt HBAR into an A4 clone build:

Anyway, I just got the barrel back and slapped it all back together:

There wasn’t any Parkerizing under the Olympic FSB, so I ended up just giving it a quick spurt of Tamiya flat black later on.

Mounted with a crush washer.

Looks a lot better (minus the different color black stripe around the barrel)
