MK14 in a Japanese animated series

What does a bad guy or a jam have to do with throwing your primary arm to the ground in order to transition to a pistol? The pistol is the logical weapon when the primary has a failure but reducing yourself to a defence arm intentionally boggles my mind.

The proper application of a tactical sling would have allowed the transition WITHOUT the loss of the rifle. Bad tactics, bad lesson taught to novice shooters. Potentially fatal decision in a combat environment.

Slings are not just for the lazy, they are a life and death piece of kit.

Blah, blah, blah...

That bunny would totally kick your ass and you know it...all else is semantics.

(plus it looked real cool)

Too many young and impressionable minds will see that garbage and think it's accurate. I see it all the time at work, saw it in a movie it must be true right?

There is no line between fantasy and reality anymore. The younger shooters pick up garbage in movies then apply it to the real world. Just for an example how many people have you seen at the range that just once try shooting their Glock "gangsta" style?

What's going to be next? People throwing loaded firearms to the ground?

This is more of a function of a lack of properly trained shooters in the CF(at least my non-infantry experience), we need to mentor the young shooters properly(I guess I'm still young too). Part of the problem for me is that the chain of command is out to lunch, and practices "no risk" shooting. We finally got to do timed run ups, but we all had to "run" at the the pace of the slowest runner - having people yell out "keep your dressing" like we are still on a parade square is a little disheartening, do they expect us to always be in a line overseas? Needless to say, the score(and experience gained) from that was fairly low. Regarding the sling issue, I bring in a proper Vickers 2-point sling, and I get laughs, then the chain of command says"you can't use that, it isn't issued" - well, issue us a proper combat sling and we wouldn't have that problem! Being one of the few guys in my unit keen to do that stuff, and dealing with the "ug, it'll get dirty" apathy attitude makes me mad. Sorry for the rant.

I actually seen some kids once arguing that the gangsta sideways grip on a handgun improves your control and allows faster follow up shots.

Wow what a bunch of idiots. This animated series looks sweet! I cant wait for it to come out. Oh and about the sling thing Paki actaully had a sling on his rifle when he was firing the rpg.

Actually, I think they'd have a large and active gun culture if they'd let themselves...

Nah, Japanese gun laws are the strictest in the world. If you think Canadian licensing is harsh, the procedure to aquire a firearm in Japan is as follows;

1) Must attend a safety class and pass a written exam. Attendance is mandatory.

2) A second exam tests the applicant's marksmanship as well as range safety and rules.

3) A full mental health checkup at a recognized major hospital is required. A physician / psychologist must sign off for the applicant.

4) A full criminal background check of the individual, once that is completed a full criminal check of the following; any spouse, all parents (maternal and paternal), and all legal dependents.

5) A full political background check is required. If the individual or any in his or her immediate family have any affiliation whatsoever with any recognized extremist groups then the application is denied.

Once all that is done, you may legally acquire a shotgun for sporting purposes only.

Now of course, there hasn't been any such 'massacre' in Japan although I can think of a effective if morbid reason why this is.

If you've grown up in an older fashioned Asian family, the pressures to perform are very high. If a child fails to meet expectations... Well the parents won't say it out loud but the expectation is you either shape up or die with dignity and spare the family any further problems. Suicide isn't considered a disgrace on anyone's part. Police take the same attitude; if it looks like suicide, they're more likely to just to write it off (they're usually thorough though).

So its been a while.. figured Id bump this up for any new members to bask in its awesomeness and if anyone else has any new news on it?

I went and watched "First Squad" to tide myself over on the wait.

Russia during WW2. Sadly no rabbits and no MK14, but it is beautifully animated. It deviates into some unnecessary mysticism and the full length version inserts live action segments where Russian veterans share their WW2 stories (kind of like band of brothers). Not for everyone, but it had some nicely animated WW2 combat for those interested in such things.

I'm glad this thread popped back up. I would have never known this to exist without you guys. Thanks. For an anime with gun usage (not guaranteeing its veracity) and entertainment value I recommend "Black Lagoon."
