well the last 2 gun auctions I went to have been good, I'm at about 50% on interesting finds
there were a few dogs that followed me home, like the 43 LB that bubba cut the end off the barrel, I was bidding up the competition and got left holding the bag.... oops I just bought that????? $160 well the good thing was that it was the cheapest enfield no4 sporter at that auction, prices were stupid after that.
Then at the next auction prices were a little better, but there were a few that left me scratching my head thinking WTF.... beat up mismatched MP marked No4 went for around $600 and a few of the PH sporters were in the $300-$350 range. Cooey .22RF were crazy, broken stocks and all you were looking at $100 - $200 for a Cooey
There was a No4 maltby 1944 that I saw and thought hey what's not to like full length barrel, bubba only got to the wood.. $90 you can't go wrong... well you can
the barrel is bent, can't tell till you look down the bore, but the bore is beautiful, looks like it was never fired. The auction house has the bolts all zap strapped so you can't play with them, and I never really looked at it so its really my fault, oh well it had some good parts I needed.
what I didn't get but wanted was a winchester made M1 carbine, just went out of my price zone.
but the good parts I picked up 2 bubba's that make me happier an MLE Mk II a few months back at the first auction, and just last weekend a LEC Mk I.
so I made the mistake of taking them apart yesterday without my camera so sometime this week I will have pictures that will stump my fellow enfield experts, things that I have never seen or heard of, and are not to be found in the Lee Enfield story.
The MLE is wearing a SMLE profile barrel with Canadian markings which is interesting and has the ugliest firing pin I have ever seen, I still have to check but I think its not the correct bolt.
The LEC is nothing special, matching serial numbers (9001) sold out of service marked and a really weird rear sight, it has a 2 part base with a 2 position folding leaf that is not marked for distance but the bases are broad arrow marked.
