For mock scrapes that I make by bow hunting tree stands, I carry a glass jar in my pack and take a bit of the soil from real scrapes I come across and put it on the soil at my mock scrapes. If I don’t put soil from real scrapes on my mock scrapes I’ll use a couple cap full’s of buck urine and after the 1st week of November doe estrus scent. For your mock scrapes make sure you pick a tree that has a small branch at chest level over top of the soil you scrape up for their eye gland. I always pick a pine or spruce tree for mock scrapes.
Here’s something that sounds bizarre and probably is, but last Sunday I was sitting in one of my tree stands and I thought about pouring apple juice from those little tetra boxes on mock scrapes. I was curious, so on Monday I poured a tetra box on two different real scrapes to see how those two different deer would react. I’ll be back there Friday.
We’ll see how northern Alberta deer will react to this super apple urine, considering that they have never seen or smelled an apple before in their lives.
