model 7 and 700 barrels

The barrel may or may not headspace, and the chance of any sight mounting holes being top dead centre is slim. In addition t headspace, you will need to check if the barrelface to boltface clearance is reasonable.
But yes, these Remington barrels can be adapted from one model to another with minimal work.

Remington barrels usually will not headspace without machine work...I've swapped a few and I've had some come very close...but I couldn't believe the one I did earlier this week. I had an '82 vintage short 700 action that was originaly a 243 and a '78 vintage 6mm barrel from a Classic. I took .002 off the front of the reciever to tru it up and that 6mm barrel turned up hand tight with the stamping just past top center.....so,.002 off the shoulder and the stamping was in the correct spot....and the headspace was only .0005(that's half a thou) on the GO gauge...so I put the reamer away.....closest one I've seen yet. Sometimes you get lucky.

Hungry and I spun a .223 LTR barrel onto a 700 action this summer, and it headspaced perfectly without any adjustment, so it does happen. The flutes weren't oriented exactly right, but we considered this to be inconsequential. The rifle shoots really well.
It is my understanding that Remingtom makes boltheads in three sizes, coded on the left lug - plain, a dot, a groove. The bolts are selectively installed. Maybe this is why it is possible to achieve correct headspace occasionally without adjustment. But I have never seen a barrel index with markings or sights absolutely correct without adjusting index.

Tiriaq is right... he is also a genius with the M700 family of boomsticks (and all the other bolt rifle boomsticks). We had such an easy time of doing that barrel, he made everything look so easy.

Hey... maybe he can do an M700 clinic ?
