OK im looking into a win. 70 on the EE and it has no safety. Whats involved in putting a new one in and approx. cost. Supposed to be a 1968 rifle. Any info would be a big help on my decision.
The parts require fitting by someone qualified... if you can find the parts... possibly Western Gun Parts in Edmonton.
Safety lever, a spring and a plunger and a retaining pin. If someone already was screwing with it and gave up, the firing pin/cocking piece could also be required.
Its a 1968 push feed rifle. I'd be worried if something else isn't wrong as the safety must have been lost in disassembly and that indicates a degree of carelessness that would concern me about the rest of the gun. Sourcing a safety would be probably straight forward but I'd want a deep discount and a careful inspection and a test fire before I'd bite.
That's why I posted here. I would definitely have a smith do job but trying to get a feel of cost to repair if everything else checks out. Rest of rifle looks very good from the pics provided. In the process of asking owner whats up with safety. Thanks
I sort of recall that posting, my thought on it was why is the safety missing in the first place? To reassemble a firearm without a safety seems strange.
Enjoy.
NEW:
A new 3-position-safety can be purchased from Ed Lapour in Washington State, USA .. http://edlapourgunsmithing.com/3-position-safeties/winchester-m5470/
but it will cost over $250 US .. with duty/taxes on top of that.
And then the gunsmithing costs related to installation are reported to also be significant.
I have been in contact with seller. Wont drop price and I sourced some new parts. About $200 US to here. I am going to shy away from this one in case there is other hidden problems. Thanks all for making my mind up. Bob
