I have a model 88 Winchester the barrel is in great condition, some surface light rust from being forgotten in the addict for decades. the stock has been varnished. I have 2 mags, 308 win. I have been approached to sell it. How much is worth, I have no idea as I am more focused on military weapons

Cheers

Oil and 0000 steel wool.
Lightly polish the barrel with this combo.
You can use gun oil, G-96 or your choice.
This treatment should remove the flecks from the barrel.
With the extra mag and no idea of condition without photos,
$400-$550?

I hate to necro post/hijack a thread, but I also have a Winchester Model 88 in .308, 1959 manufacture. Stock is in decent condition, and the barrel looks sharp. I will post pictures in a day or two, but what might this be worth?

I was going to say $400 as well. The surface rust can be easily dealt with in a number of ways, provided the bore isn't pitted, some attics can be pretty damp places. If the bore is poor, then the price is closer to $150 just for the action. The "varnished" stock fills me with dread, as some of the varnished stocks I've come across would have required a great deal of work to strip and oil finish.

If it has impressed checking on the stock it is a post 1964 manufacture, pre 64 have cut checkering. I think a pre 64 is worth around $150 more than a post 64 if both are in very good condition.Yours would be worth anywhere from $250 to $700 or so. Pics are required for an intelligent estimate of value.
