Modern Actions In 6.5x55?

I have always liked the look and feel of a Win. 70 Featherweight. I "fondled" one in 6.5X55 at a gun auction once and dropped out of the bidding before the hammer fell. Should never have passed it up. The kids really didn't need shoes that bad.

I have a friend who bought a Tikka 3 in 6.5X55 for his daughters to hunt with. He has a heap of other guns but ends up using the Tikka himself most of the time.

Actually, they were M77 MK II. And your right.

They are nice. We can only get them noew are 'extorsion 'pricing but we've got about a dozen of the s/s walnut 250 Savages coming at 'normal' pricing. One will be in my safe-it will have to do in lieu of the 6.5X55 :)

I have a Remington 700 Classic in 6.5x55 that is now on it's third barrel! That gives a little idea of how much it has been shot. The original Remington barrel was gone in two years. The Pac-Nor lasted 4. Now I have a Shilen on it with a quick Twist and a fairly short throat. [Thanks Guntech] It shoots in the .3's if I do my part. Regards, eagleye.

Care to share your load recipe and barrel specs? I have a Pac-Nor 1-8" twist that will finish at 20" and I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to make it a 6.5x55 or a 260 Rem. I have both short and long donor actions.

Thanks, ZM

You must shoot that rifle a lot. :)

Also are boat tail bullets involved?

I had a Tikka T3 Lite 6.5x55 a couple of years ago and it shot everything well. I sold it in a moment of weakness and regretted it since. I just replaced it with a T3 6.5x55stainless synthetic and now I'm just waiting for my Talley mounts and Leupold Vx3. If this one shoots as well as the last one, it's not going anywhere.

I have a real nice 6.5x55 made by Steyr, it is the pro Hunter model stainless over synthetic. I have only shot it a few times, still in load developement. But I like what I see so far. The trigger is interesting, a two stage, never had one like this before. FS

I sold my sportered m38 Husqvarna last year and picked a new T3 lite from Epps in time to beat the significant price jump. Liked the Husky, luv the Tikka.

My life with the 6.5x55mm...........

My love affair with the 6.5x55mm went beyond the Model 96 and Model 38 Swedes about 20 years ago. Had a sporter done up off a bubba'd Model 96 short rifle but wasn't 100% happy with it, especially after shooting a friend's Win Model 70 F/W in 6.5x55mm. So the quest was on to find a dedicated factory sporter in the ctg.....

My first one was a NIB, Ruger Model 77 MkII purchased new at Lever Arms in Vacouver circa 1994....

Some lucky CGN'er has that rifle now. It was one that I shouldn't have let go... :(

Next came a real deal Rem 700 Classic in 6.5x55mm bought off the EE here in one of the very first incarnations of CGN. Very much a safe queen for me though. Very pretty rifle. Another CGN'er has it now and says it shoots very well for him....

Lastly, came this Tikka 695 stainless synthetic. Of 'em all, despite being a heavy beast, she is the "keeper"....
